    Thumbs up Making 2x2GB PC8000+ DDR2 Compatible

Since many users and myself amongst them, bought some G.Skill or Mushkin PC8000+ 2x2GB Kits,
we cannot have them posted beyond 980+ MHz especially in motherboards
with no manual adjusting of tRFC > 42 for example my Maximus Formula

    What i did?
I downloaded the old favor spdtool found here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=123624.

For those having Muskin Redline 8000 @ 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1 Volts like me
this is the screenshot from default spd.

As you can see the tRFC value = 42 and in order to make them compatible
must be set at least at value = 52.

Just use the tool and locate tRFC and put there 128.33ns.
That's it you can flash your modules with new spd.
Do not forget to fix checksum first.
    New spd is like that:

My memories running now with moded spd:

Try at your own risk. I have no responsibility if something goes wrong

our trfc value at spd is on 52 already
use auto on x38 and p35 will give you 52 or 68 depends on motherboard bios

The G.Skill PC2 8000 sticks I have tested in P35/X38 boards have all defaulted to a tRFC of 52. That should be plenty for 2x2GB at PC2 8000 speeds.

In fact is 51 according to an spd dumb from a friend of mine on G.Skill PC8000
and it will do it as you said with auto.

But for whatever memory has that problem someone can do the trick

Also someone can set higher tRFC than 52 if that helps him in overclocking

I do not want to triple post but no matter what i did on Formula with
default spd auto gives me 42. End of story.

There are many users with same problem i am not the only one.

@Kunaak playing with spd tool will give you the value since it will show it at the
    bottom (nsec rephrased)

because Asus doesn't have option trfc 52 but it should auto set at 52 or higher.

i tested it on asus x38 maximus formula with latest bios. as long as memory timing at auto, it is ok at 52.

it is really weird. let me know

Brown delivered my G.Skill PC2-8000 memory this afternoon and this is my first try to see what tRFC would be.

I was surprised that it was 64. tRFC can't be set in the BIOS. I set the 5-5-5-15-2T in my EVGA 780i BIOS and left the the other setting on Auto. Are there version of this memory that have different tRFC values?

Just after I ordered this memory I started seeing all these message that 'I can't set tRFC > 42'. For several days I was wondering if I had made a mistake but if what I see in MemSet is correct then all my worrying was for not.

You have also tRC too big should be around 25.
I think the mobo put them this way or memset is not reading well.
Everest should show the same. You should put them on X38/P35 motherboard
    to be sure.

tRC is set to Auto and shows [Auto(45)]. I could set it to 25 and see what happens. Look at the SPD tab above for EPP#1. At 500MHz it has tRC set to 45.

Very nice. Will this work with the P5B-D to run 8GB at DDR2 1000 speeds?

The only reason for that to not work is if by putting tRFC to 52
the mobo itself cannot set that value (is not supported in bios - is range limited).
In that case i am assuming that it will put the highest value it can support, for example if highest auto value is 50 no matter what.

For example in my laptop the tRFC value is fixed to 43 for 2x2GB modules and i have changed many values
    greater or less that 43.
