Thumbs up OCZ Platinum 1600@1091 cas 8-8-8-25-1T.

I am exceptionally impressed with this ram.

I posted this ram in the online deals section a few days ago, cause its only $249.99 at newegg.
for DDR3 at 1600 mhz, thats a super good deal.
I also read about 10 different reviews on the ram and saw some good results, and saw 1 persons results here on XS, showing 1000 at cas 7-6-6.
so after all that, I took the plunge.
while cheap for DDR3, spending $250 on only 2 gigs of ram, is still alittle nerve racking to me. I always worry my cheapness, will get me cheap hardware.

this is one time where I am glad to say, being cheap, payed off nicely.

    Hardware.

    Vista 32 Ultimate.
    Maximus Extreme - Bios 0905.
    8800 GTS 320.
    1000 watt Silverstone PSU.
CPU Cooled with a chilly1 single stage.
chipset cooled with regular maximus block + koolance exos.

    Hijackers.

first off, before anyone starts in with the whole "my set ups faster then yours", I just wanna say "go start your own thread".
if its not about OCZ, or wanting to know something about my settings or whatever, dont post.
last time I posted my thread was hijacked by 10 different people.
some posting like 12 screenshots, to prove how fast thier PC was, saying "you should tweak yours better".

I am not here to compete with you.
    I dont tweak for pi.
    I tweak the bios.
I need to keep this OS usable for daily stuff, so I dont bother with all the pi tweaks and such. I am just showing what can be done with this ram - if you get a good set.

    Testing.

Booting into windows, at 9 x 500. voltages all set high for "SetFSB" use.
Cas 8-8-8-25-1T, all other settings at Auto.
Transaction Booster always enabled at 3. (performance level 7)

get into windows, set FSB up by 5 mhz increments, have CPUZ running, validate every 5 mhz. run 1M if I can. if 1M ran easy, try 8M, or 32M.

    Quick Overview.

    Cas 8-7-7-20-1T top was 1070.
    Cas 8-8-8-25-1T top was 1091.

    Top 1M was 1070 cas 8-8-8.
did pass 1080 once, but it froze.
did take a pic of it however, if anyones curious to see it.

at 1091, TRFC was taken from 60 to 72.

Transaction booster was always at enabled - 3, and 1T.

    I tried 2T, didnt help.

    1080 cas 8-8-8 Validation.

    1070 cas 8-7-7 Validation.

Sorry these first few pics are gonna suck.
given the size of the pics, its hard for me to edit them down to under 200k to be able to post them, while keeping them readable.
I might have to post them on my Imageshack account, to keep the pics readable.

    lol @ eva2000...

    @ Kunaak..

first off i think what you said about the thread hijacking was spot on...

you try to post info for people to learn from and appreciate and then a minority , who have a combined mental age of 15 completely miss the point and post a load of uninformative dribble...
so good for you for saying what most of us already think....

thanks for the info on this ram...
i'll definatly be coming back to all the threads of this nature when i make the jump to ddr3...
    now get overclocking lol jk!

use memset to push tRFC higher (over 72) and clock in windows, I bet you see higher.

tRFC being limited to 72 is killing the higher clock IMO
Got a problem with your OCZ product....?

    tony,

what TRFC range do you suggest?

    72 - 100+ maybe.

There will be some performance affect...but you may be able to outclock the hit because it is small.

Set to 80, see if it improves any stability at your 1080 1m settings, then just work it higher and you should see some more clocks.

It may not work at all either At almost 2200 MHz, that is really fast. Voltage may come down just a bit with Trfc a bit looser as well. Again, maybe not at these clocks, but down lower for 24/7

the lowest memset goes is 80.

    i'll try again later.

todays been a insanely good hardware day.
new ram goes crazy on this board.
    new 3870X2 does 930/1070.
took 2 hours to figure out how to OC it properly, but once I got rivatuner to finally show the clocks changing in real time... that was a good feeling.

    great ram, great videocard.

thats all shes got captain, I dont think she can take any more.

even 2T doesnt get me above 1093.
    1080 at 1T, and 1M.
thats the last I can pull outta this thing.

Very nice clocks from some "budget" DDR3. I just need the prices to drop a little bit more before I make the leap, X48 might do it for me though. The voltages being pushed through these DIMMs are nuts though, I'd be afraid of toasting my new chips but apparently this DDR3 is rather resilient.

    Great work like always Kunaak.
And spot on with Thread hijacking.
I think that asking for settings is cool. As long as you dont think the thread is a helping forum.

    You should try out Flicker.
You need a Yahoo email for it, Only part that sux.
Then via their webpage or the downloadable program you can upload pictures in a sek.

This makes me cringe for paying $500 for my Corsairs PC3-14400, luckily I've still got a few days left for refund! Pretty amazing RAM you got there Kunaak especially for only $249! I suppose it doesn't really matter but I assume these are GTR's?

Great, thanks for the advice as I'm now in the market for a new kit! Fortunetly for us the price of decent DDR3 seems to already be dropping!

    I missed the shot too...

    ... 12885 MB/s with 41.7 latency.

Quite suprising considering the massive FSB there. I guess the combination of CAS 8 and Perf lvl 7 is to blame here.

    Hmmm....

How much does DDR3 really increase performance?

That mem speed isn't much better than DDR2 on a nvidia intel board.

And lower than DDR2 on an AM2 board.

Do you have a DDR2 board to test same chip clocks, but highest mem oc?

Wich voltage are you using to make:
    Cas 8-7-7-20-1T top was 1070.
    Cas 8-8-8-25-1T top was 1091.
    superPI 32M DDR3-2000 MHz 8-7-7-20 1T?

    Thanks a lot!
