    BOINC frozen - help

    I have boinc 5.10.30 installed as a service (XP Pro 32, SP2).

It seems to be stuck on snooze or something (it's grayed out when I left click on the system tray icon). I have my preferences set to run only after computer has been idle for 1 min. I changed it to tick while computer is in use....still frozen.

    I tried a repair install....same thing.

Besides the obvious "what am I doing wrong?", I guess my other question is: If I uninstall and reinstall boinc, will I lose my current in process work units?

    Thanks.

I have had the same thing happen to me too. The best thing to do is uninstall, delete folders from program files & do a fresh install. Is sux, I know, but thats the best way to take care of the problem.

    Thanks Hicks.

I reinstalled and boinc works again. Unfortunately, I did lose a few work units.

I should have asked this before I did anything....

What should I have done with the incomplete and not yet started work units? For future reference.

If you cancel them then the server can reassign them right away instead of waiting for you to timeout. But the work will get done eventually regardless.

P.S.- I'm a Shelby-Mopar fan, too first car was an '86 Shelby Charger ! I'd have already hit you up to buy those old CSX-T wheels I had but I sold them quite a while ago for $50. And I'm gonna build more systems to catch back up to you !

My CSX is sitting in storage right now, awaiting some TLC. I have a fresh engine, turbo, and trani and most suspension parts to get her back on the road....kinda' waiting on a getting a house so I can do the work....and waiting for emissions exempt status after 25 years old.

A while ago I was Jonesing for some new hardware and asked the group to talk me down - excuse me while I go change my Depends.

Anyway, a bunch of people volunteered Dave for the purpose and I asked him to be my sponsor. He agreed, and believe it or not did help me keep some money in my bank account a little longer than it would have been there. But AMD cut the price on the Phenoms and . . . . well, I'm only human. (Haven't been doing to well the past few weeks so still haven't put the new system together yet, but getting there).

So I'm going to start a new WCG thread to help the addicts who actually want help. I'll call it WCG 12-steppers or something like that.

Hi. My name is Robin and I'm a crunchaholic.

But I thought the whole reason we crunch is so we have a justifiable reason and excuse to buy new hardware....to satisfy our addiction. No???? Maybe I misunderstood something somewhere along the line.

I'm just kidding....being the sarcastic a$$ that I am. No disrespect intended. I certainly have plenty of my own addictions, including new hardware.

Hi, my name is Mike and I'm an addict.
