3870 crossfire & crysis - what's your point of success?

If any one, by any chance, is running CRYSIS with 2x Radeon 3870 in crossfire mode...please share your experience with us!

I have installed crysis patch 1.1 , latest catalyst 7.12, vista 64 plus cf/sli hotfix, But I get y frame rate with a lot of droops! I think, based on rivatuner report the game plays a yu-yu game with 3d and 2d clocks. just look at this picture :

I have no problems, but that's most likely because I'm using the hotfix drivers. I installed them according to this.

I've pointed others toward this when they had problems and they are all running fine now!

the community is now leaning towards powerplay causing the issue... the gpu's are switching to 2d mode momentarily causing the massive drop in frames.. this is being tested as we speak....
i need to get a bios which just uses 3d speeds in all modes...

I think its a driver issue, i had some of the problems were it wouldn't clock up to 3d mode at all when i launch a game. The 7.12 drivers seem to be even worse. I have no problems in crysis, but im not in crossfire. I had that same exact problem in Test Drive Unlimited and DiRT, my rivatuner graph will look exactly like that. BUT with the 7.11 drivers, those games ran fine.

So maybe another beta or driver release will be soon.

works fine for me in crossfire 3870's (850/1236). it runs it fine on high settings with filters at 4x, but will go alittle slow in some of the more hardcore single player battles. I"m bottle necked by my cpu. So i usually run a mixed high/med settings for gameplay.

I have a hard time saying this game looks more realistic then COD4.

    7.11 drivers. game not patched.

What settings are you running for Catalyst AI? I would say that it's a driver issue.....although I'm in Vista x64 and not experiencing this...I have had some issues with OC instability ( or just a bug) where VPU recover kicks in......even though my temps never even hit 50C.....

Sean, I too am getting the exact same drops in Crysis. I have a wattage meter that came with my psu and thats how can see my 3d clocks fluctuating.

I have noticed that it only happens to me in certain levels in crysis tho. Some maps ill turn one way and have 30+FPS and be drawing 400+watts then turn the other way and my frames drop to below 10 and my system draws like 250 watts.

I am running the 1.1 patch with Xfire/Sli hotfix and Crysis 64 in DX9 mode with High spec @ 1920x1080.

I did notice that after the patch Crysis is running quicker for me. Higher fps and it seems smoother.

I am hoping that the 8.1 drivers fix all for us.

it doesn't happen to me. rig is in my sig - 7.12 driver. i'm running XP Pro 32-bit. the little valley in the middle is probably from a save point - the game runs perfectly smooth for me (demo, not retail). i let it cool off before taking a screenshot so you guys could see how my new BIOS controls the fan speed to keep the GPU at or under 63°C. it is the perfect BIOS for anyone using the stock cooler.

I am running two 3850's in Crossfire with Cats 8.1. Crossfire works in Crysis, though the second card (without the monitor) is switching clocks down and up as it pleases I get good but unstable framerates.

    Thanks for your info man.

you mean with your system your PC just eat 400 Watt @ max load?

Yes, I see a little boost in performance with the patch. and you're right, the frame droops occurs while turning around quickly, zooming into gun sight, using binoculars ... I mean the sudden moves create loose! hope 8.1 will fix it but 8.1 beta version which I downloaded from guru3d did noting and even destroyed my frame rate in HL2 EP2 with crossfire to 15 fps, single card now gives 50+ frames @ 16AA/16AF in HL2 EP2

COD4 & NFS PS are buggy with CF too, Or I should say CF is buggy with this games...never mind the guilty here...

I have seen my system go up to just under 500 Watt draw with both cards working and both of my cores maxed out. Funny huh? I was under the impression that I need the PC Power and Cooling silencer 750 crossfire edition. As an expiriment, i purchased a 6 pin PCIE Y adapter ( ya, i know i didnt know they exsisted either) and gave it a whirl. Who knows how long my current coolermaster 550 will last with this kind of abuse but my system remains rock solid stable. Until then, ill refrain from buying a PSU that supports 8.21 Giggawats. See my sig, i have a lot 'o stuff in my pc and it works fine.

This may need registration with Crymod to DL.....all you have to do is unzip this autoexec.cfg file to
    c:\program files\electronic arts\crytek\crysis\
    and the CVAR goes to
c:\program files\electronic arts\crytek\crysis\game\config (not sure about those last two....at work ATM)

how do you define "great fps?" iirc, you run at 1920x1200. i ran that config at 1680x1050. i changed a couple things: i turned AA and motion blur off and added a line for "r_multigpu = 1". got 20-35 fps outdoors on the beach level (demo). the game looked absolutely amazing, but my framerate was less than great.

isn't there a command you can put in the config that limits how much VRAM the game uses?
