Talking E8500 Retail Q740A493T better of 2 cpus

To make it brief, posting the results of the better of 2x E8500 Q740A493T retail cpus. Full results of both cpus at http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=5322

    E8500
    Q740A493T
    Pack Date 12/19/07
    2L7****
    **0909 & **1808

    System
    • Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Q740A493T 2L7**** / **0909
    • CPU Cooling: Dtek Fuzion Rad Tower Box
    • Asus Blitz Formula 1205 bios
    • 128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI
    • 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500 dual channel kit (white dimm slots)
    • Memory cooling: 120x25mm Thermaltake 81cfm fan
    • 80GB Hitachi 7K80 SATAII
    • Pioneer DVD-RW
    • 620W Corsair HX620 PSU supplied by Corsair
    • WinXP Pro SP2 Nlite Fully Updated.

    1hr Prime95 @4000Mhz at 1.28v load

Really liking this 2nd E8500 **0909 cpu just has that little bit extra over my 1st E8500 in nearly all departments, higher FSB 540-555FSB vs 535FSB, lower vcore for 4000Mhz at 1.28v vs 1.304v and now more stable 4.5Ghz at 1.504v load/1.512v idle.

    Wprime v1.55 32M and 1024M @4503Mhz 1.512v idle/1.504v load

    Systool Dual 32M PI @4503Mhz 1.512v idle/1.504v load

SetFSB my way to 4602Mhz at 1.504v load for Wprime v1.55 32M!

    CPUZ Validation @4651Mhz - 8.5 x 547FSB

    Super Pi 1M = 10.000s exactly @4618Mhz - 8.5 x 543FSB

    Super Pi 1M = 9.953s @4638Mhz - 8.5 x 545FSB

    Super Pi 32M = 10m 13.625s @4547Mhz - 8.5 x 535FSB

This set of 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500 didn't like 32M with tigher than tRAS 9 much, so might try a different set later. But 32M time seems a bit slow heh.

    Wprime v1.55 32M & 1024M @4547Mhz - 8.5 x 535FSB

Finally, Super Pi 32M under 10min.. took some extra cpu mhz to do due to low cpu FSB only @496FSB.

All runs below done with 1.68125v bios set (1.648v idle / 1.640v load)

CPUZ Validation @4851Mhz at 1.648v idle

    Super Pi 1M @4745Mhz at 1.648v idle

    Super Pi 32M @4712Mhz at 1.648v idle

Loosened memory timings and set vcore to 1.70v bios (1.664v idle) and using setFSB see how far I can get E8500 for max cpuz validation. Seems got to 4942Mhz before it froze, the last saved cpuz validation was at 4896Mhz

I didn't say they were not retail, but I hope that kind of clock will be the norm for everybody.

Yay so there's still hope that the 4GHz+ clocks are a reality even for retail chips on air/water for E8400 & E8500 as some earlier thread was telling different. Very nice cpus.

didn't test at 6x, at 7x for better of the 2 E8500s, got max FSB validation at 555FSB, 547FSB for 1M, 540FSB for 4M and 535FSB is easy super pi 32M.. haven't tested beyond stock CPU PLL 1.5v. The first cpu was around 530-535FSB. Dinos has 2x E8500 Q740A493T same batch as mine both his do 530FSB as well... so a sameple of 4x E8500 Q740A493Ts, 3 do 530FSB and one does 535-555FSB.

default AUTO vcore is around 1.192v for 2nd cpu and 1.186v for 1st cpu. But didn't test max at that vcore.. i know 1.208v gets me booting into memtest86+ at around 4113Mhz.

I was just looking through intel's spec sheets and it looks like abs max is 1.45v with max at 1.3625. since most people stuck to the max for conroes of 1.5v, would you or anyone else care to test how well these penryns scale from stock vcore up to 1.3625?

real impressive if currently good wolfdales can go 4ghz with < 1.3v. hopefully will mean the more runtier ones will be able to do 4ghz at or below 1.36
