    9800GX2 Pictures & Specs Revealed

I never thought the [H] would get something like this first:

    http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/articl...50aHVzaWFzdA==

    GeForce 9800 GX2

    1. 1GB Frame Buffer

    2. Two PCBs

    3. Two 65nm GPUs Total

    4. 256 Stream Processors Total

In my opinion, we should be expecting nothing more than two 8800GT's put together, in this case on two separate PCB's.

Hah so the GX2 does exist.

For once marketing team got their heads straight and called it 9800, as I almost saw 8800GX2 coming.

EDIT: Nvm, article answered my question.

I'll pass and wait for the G100, If they just release and hold G100, I'm going to kill nvidia.

I would guess on a 8800GX2 name. And we still need to verify its valid. I love how they write 2 of everything..but 1GB memory. Hah.

Also there dont seem to be a fan...

looks like although the board is a double slot cooler, the pci connection is in the middle, so rather then hanging over the top more, it sticks out above and below the plane of the slot. Might be interesting for those worried about cramming 2 in a case.

I'm pretty sure that's not true. G100 is what you're expecting that NVIDIA is only delaying due to still-fine-going 8800 series sales and the new G92 65nm cards. This is just the 2xG92 card that will battle R680, 2x55nm and prolly the NVIDIA card won't have a long life (like 7900GX2) before G100 appears on the market but again that depends prolly how well this card does against R680 so I hope it's gonna suck!

Personally I had rather seen NVIDIA skipped this card and bring the G100 launch when this card is supposed to be released.

Again I don't see the reason for holding off for G100 release unless there is some design flaws/issues that they've discovered since if they released it ASAP it will probably take a while since ATI might have something that would able to fight it, ie R700. I would guess we would be talking about 6 months lead or so or a bit longer and would look like when they released 8800GTX and GTS quite a while ago, ie nothing that could stand against them.

Im pretty certain this is just something to battle against the 3870x2 and that we will still see the highend single gpu card shortly after. Remember 3870x2 will only be around 8800Ultra in performance so nVidia will more than likely have something far superior to their current highend. After all this GX2 would probably still struggle to cope with Crysis so there has to be something better in the very near future or there will be hell to pay.

I think one serious issue would be heat/power usage to start with. Maybe at 32nm it would start to get controllable though with reasonable cooling designs (in their eyes). Don't think the market is ready for it yet but it probably arrives sooner or later.

It's just seemed like the most logical step to me.
I look at Processors, and see 4 and in the future 8 cores, but
then I look at graphics cards, and am dissappointed.

Define a true dualcore card. Like R680 and the other single PCB cards?

    vs r680.?
    drivers.?
    7950gx2 owners'/ex-owners' comments.?

although article says 2 pcb's..the pic looks like one pcb and a h.sink shroud?

will it launch same time as r680?

a true duel core will be like the r700, its like intels quads they are just 2 duel cores next to each other

and there is a pcb were the pci-e slot is then one behind it

The GPU is the most multi threaded hardware there exists...so I would also like to know what your definition is of true-dual core. This is because RV670 in some sort of way has 64 "cores".

EDIT: So you mean in the MCM sort of way, zanzabar....I also hope R700 will turn out to be something along those lines.

I think he means something like a dual-core processor.

Where there is 2 cores on 1 die.

I don't think the video card technology will make that jump for awhile.

Thats an odd definition of a true dualcore. But I doubt and I still put my money on R700 is a single die or in best case an R680 approach. Multi/dualdie seems to be the rumour wish

People also said R680 would be like that..until time caught up.

Its ALOT easier and cheaper just to make 1 big die with a GPU.

But there is basicly already 16-128 cores on a GPU today. GPUs have been "multicores" for ages.

Can anyone establish the length of the card? Looks like it might be the same as the GTX...

I know they have "multicores" but I mean like a Processor design, Where its more powerful and such.

Because I know these is how a G80 looks.

In my opinion, we should be expecting nothing more than two 8800GT's on the same PCB. Same concept that ATI is implementing with the R680.

So is it two PCB's or one?

    Two. Like the 7950GX2 was.
