    Pro Street Lag

    Hi guys,

Got a 8600GTS on my hands, and decided to pick up Pro Street...

I know pretty much all of the NFS series have this weird lag problem, where you're actually getting 30/40 FPS (In my case) but theres still frame loss at corners...

    Im running at Full Settings @ 800 x 600 2AA 0AS

Tryed running at minimum settings, and its still there (Although not as bad)

Thinking that the 128bit bus is probaly bringing some of this lag to the table, but I also remember the exact same problems on my 8800GTS 640MB in NFSMW.

All other system specs are well within Recommended System Requirements...

Anyone got any ideas how to sort this out? Or is it just a case of getting a better card to reduce the stalling?

    Thanks ...

Im using the latest Nvidia drivers, using Vista, and just defragging right now...

Also my card is 256MB, I know someone here could see how much of their VRAM was being used up by the monitor in Rivatuner.... Is there a fix for that or something, my card doesn't have it....

Got it from my dad's mate in the US

    Kind of a xmas present

EDIT: I think this could have an effect, all my EA installations are fragmented to hell, I have around 8GB of temporary crap on my system, Need to sort this out, il be back in around an hour to tell you if it worked, and now Im not using Vista's Defragger, Cos I wouldn't be back for a day otherwise :P

Been playign a bit more, trying to find out if people have found fixes for the previous NFS games with the lag issues.

Can't find a thing! All I know is that NFSC was one of the more optimised NFS games, also ran better (less corner lag)

Hope that EA come out with a patch....Anyway heres another screenshot...

Really stressing my card now trying to get this game to run better :P

    Im at 783/1620/2376

I have the same problem in Carbon. Frame loss most noticeably when turning a corner at high speed.

X1950 and 8800 series both do this so its a fault of the game engine (EA). I have found that Vsync tends to cause this if you cannot push the 60fps your monitor needs. Try playing with that - otherwise I don't know of any fix.

Thanks for the reply I just tried disabling Vsync (In nVidia monitor aswell) but didn't really see much of a difference, My card barely seems to hit 60fps, averages out between 25/40. Tryed at different refresh settings aswell, of 60 & 75, no differenece anywhere.

Think im gonna pick up a 8800GT for xmas, (Not just for this game )

Think it would help to minimise the lag? Should be hitting 60 then, and for this game is Vsync best left on or off?

I remember with NFSMW I got a bit of lag with my 7900GTO, which then started disappearing after I upgraded to a 8800GTS 640 ( This only then happened with AA, because they were higher cards )

I think cos I have this slow card with a crappy bus width it is somewhat contributing to the lag..Hopefull a more decent card will help sort it out

see my post regarding this issue. i've gone into much more detail.

seems the issue is with the car rendering as the stuttering virtually disappears when using bumper or hood cam.

i've had this issue in carbon and mw and now ps. it's got to be the engine as i've used different cpu and gpu combos over that time. the one constant is my love of far chase cam...

I have this on my PS3, and it's pretty addicting. Have a 240SX 177BHP running 9sec in the 1/4 right now. RX-7 for my grip and Silva for my drift.

just curious guys but if the title is called pro street lag then why does the thread have a bunch of in game screen shots and now discussion about drag racing?

can anyone backup my findings that the lag is reduced and/or disappears altogether when using the bumper or hood cam?

    ^^ confirmed.

I ran WoW and a vlc movie in the background while periodically switching to and fro with nfs; my 650hp z4 hops around back and forth like a gazelle in 3rd person view, but in bumper view everything is perfectly smooth, until i encounter my oponents - a lap behind me The things get jittery again

Speaking of drag tho... gt500 shelby @ 7xxhp doing 7.6s 1/4s after tuned gear ratios; i beat oponents by like 2s and almost always dominate days without doing all the races : /

Word of advice; if you get a free car marker, SAVE IT. After the second "showdown" (this is after like 14 race days - very early in the game) u get acess to ALL cars; get the 800k pagani for free and either sell it to buy ANYTHING u could desire or actually spend the rest of the 250k something u should have @ that point to be able to pwn anything.
I used to be a schizophrenic; but we're okay now.

ya, i've only tested this in practice mode. crap if it still happens when other cars are around. guess i'll have to take the lead early and stay in front.

The lag reduction on bumper / hood cam is correct, has been said on EA's forums. I also notice it myself, find it hard to control the car from that view though.

I have screenshots in this thread so that Unkown.. can see what he'll be getting on the 23rd

Also, theres word from mods on the EA forum that EA know of this problem, and are currently creating a patch

i'll believe it when i see it. it's been a problem since mw and they've done nothing about it.

edit - i can't, for the life of me, figure out how to create a new thread on that awful forum.

Hi guys, Installed the new Nvidia drivers (169.12 Beta Seems to have dramatically improved performance, I barely get any lag now! I have even upped my settings to 1024 x 768

#1) Lag when cornering at high speed, WHEN seeing the car. Does not lag if using hood or bumper cam.

#2) When using hood or bumper cam, lag again when seeing the cars up ahead that are lagging a full lap behind you.

Conclusion: Smoke from tires having big FPS hit? When cornering at high speed, there would be this smoke... which you would not see from bumper and hood cam.

Are there settings to change the graphics for anything related to smoke from the tires or something similar?

it's not smoke at all for me. i can do donuts and it's smooth. i get the stuttering at speeds. as long as i'm in bumper or hood cam i don't noticed it in races with other cars.

as a benefit to all this i now prefer hood cam over chase cam as it's more exhilarating driving.

I'm a fan of the bumper cam myself... like having my face stuck on the front bumper of the car. I can almost feel the road!
