Just imagine what the $500 video cards will be like then

This means the new GTS is supposed to be GTX level, but what about the new GTX and on?

Can't wait to see what RV670 has in store, since its supposed to be better than the HD2900XT in raw benchmarks at least, which would put it around the 8800GT also

Also, we need to see real game benches since 3dMark06 only means so much (like the 2900XT)

They bench in games too zerazax, the performance is pretty close to GTX levels, even with AA.

Beats the R600 almost all the way down the line.

If the RV670 hasn't fixed the AA issue, then ati may be in a pickle. This would be a shame, because ATi/AMD really need a win now more than ever.

8800GTS FS ne1 :P. Awesome price/performance there. Overclocking looks good too, a 140MHz Core OC on single slot stock cooler. Cant wait for official reviews of RV670 to see which ones the better deal.

without dx10.1 support that card has a short lifespan. But it will live for a long time with slow upgraders. Great numbers for the price.

    65nm vs 55nm is a moot point. The 8800GTX is 90nm and the HD2900XT 1GB (it's competitor) is 80nm. Size isn't always everything.

As for DX10.1, this could be a factor, much like it was with the X800's vs the 6800's. The reason I say "could" is because DX10.1 doesn't do much in terms of visuals, while DX9C did bring improvement(FP based HDR anyone?).

Like I said, I really hope AMD/ATi have fixed their AA issues here. They could really use a win here.

Not as short as one would think. DX10.1 is more-so updates for developers than consumers. If you look over the updates, you'll see what I mean. There's not really any changes what-so-ever that directly effect the customer themself, or the quality of the image. It merely just gives the developer more control over the card directly via the api, and adds better support for multiple gpus.

Well as far as I have read dx10.1 will be so much different it requires a new design for the card hence the 10.1 support on ATI cards (expected). that is no mere software update, but to support your point there will be backward compatibility to 10 , and in the end, a pain in the end

I guess that benefit crossfire system a bit, question is how that would translate into games.

That sort of performance with a single slot cooler is impressive to say atleast. Imagine a waterblock on there and its the card of the year.

I was expecting it to be pretty much in the middle between 8800GTX and GTS performance but that it would be this close to GTX performance even with AA and AF set to high was a bit better than expected. Looking good, many thanks for this review.

The spectical people can throw their 8800GT to be slower than GTS idea into the sea now. And better yet, we don't know much about overclockability yet.

Not really since the GTX has been around for almost a year now. And for those who have one, its still in the lead in performance.

Its a slap on the face to those who just bought a shiny new GTX. :P

But not for those who have been enjoying the 8800GTX for almost a year.

Um, in case you haven't noticed, computer prices drop fast and hard. The GTX lasting this long is not the norm at all.

Imagine the quad core's coming in at $1000 and now being priced at $266. And that's within half a year. The GTX going a year at that price range and performance is unheard of, considering that the 7 series had the 7900 refresh and 7950's as well.
