    Opteron 170 LCBQE 0722RPAW - 3564Mhz - new WR

    Hey everybody,

thought it would be worth a new topic

This was the setup. Regular watercooling with 10°C ambient and about 14°C water temp.

    And the achievement:

    http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=238914

This means that WR goes to .......................... Hungary

If I had a chiller, I could use the CPU at 3200Mhz with default voltage ...

And here's a pic of my rig:

    Nice OC! Very nice!

But it must scale pretty badly if you can't "even" get it to 3.6.

My 175 would be stable at 3.2 with 1.4v and chilled water (it's ALMOST stable with normal water temps, at least), but I only needed 1.58v to get it to 3555 MHz.

That thing LOVES lower temps benched it at night with chilled water, gained 10C and about 80mhz (same voltage).

Ice? How? Don't understand what you mean.

The ambient temp was 9°C ... and the water temp about 14°C.

Yeah i'll do that when i have some time .. i mean, i wanted to try 3200Mhz with normal ambient temp in the room and then asked the boys @ hwluxx: should i go outside? it's quite cold. They said yes ... why not! (and make some pics).

i did'nt want to make a WR .. oh gott, that was my last thought!

I had a 2gb kit once. Very nice sticks, but i could only run them @ 2.77v because of the heatspreaders getting so HOT.

2.84 with active cooling is OK I guess.

Today or tomorrow a new Opteron 170 should be here, can't wait to see which stepping! Hopefully it goes as well as this one, if yes, this WR CPU is ready to be sold Anyone interested to test it under DICE or LN2?

I got the exact same stepping: LCBQE 0722RPAW and it can only do 2.9 GHz at 1.475v @ 47 degrees with my Big Typhoon VX, and 2.95 GHz at 1.525v @ 55 degrees... it's a hot CPU that makes my motherboard's PWM heat up like 25 more degrees than with my other CCBBE stepping that can do 2.9 GHz at 1.550v, 53 degrees core and PWM at only 63 degrees. 3 GHz is not stable and 1.55v with this LCBQE would make my mobo's PWM go into the 80 degrees red-zone.

So, does it make your mobo PWM heat up a lot more? I've tried like 6 different Opty 170's so far, and one that could do over 3 GHz actually made my PWM go to 100 degrees C! Of course, I care about my precious Abit Fatal1ty AN8-SLI mobo more than the CPU.

My theory is that the "freak" overclockers suck up electricity like crazy from the mobo. Even if it's cooled very well, with the best air or water cooling around, it's still gonna suck the bejesus out of the poor motherboard.

Perhaps it's the mobo that cannot handle the tremendous PWM currents as well as DFI motherboards can?

Give it less juice, and see if it helps. Try to see how far it goes with... say 1.25v. If it still sucks, then you just got a bad chip.
