Sony FZ15G Laptop Overclocking - Nvidia 8400M GT mobile graphics card

well it's been tempting before but i just never got around to it

thought i'd freshen up my OCs and show something a little different :sweatdrop

    ON THE TEST BENCH TODAY

    Sony VAIO VGNFZ15G Laptop LOL!

    • CPU: Core2 Duo T7100 (1.80GHz) 2MB L2 Cache
    • System Bus: 800MHz
    • RAM: 1GB DDR2 SDRAM single stick 5-5-5-x timings (cannot change in bios)
    • HDD: 120GB SATA, 5400rpm
    • GFX: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT 383MB Stock Clocks: 450MHz Core; 600MHz RAM
    • 15.4" Wide
    • OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

NO SPECIAL COOLING nor fan settings....just as it is at stock
    22C ambient

it's a shame that i could not get setFSB to work under vista so CPU was at stock
same goes for RAM system RAM timings >> memset not happy with Vista either

18064 points looks at the overclock here
    Stock core 450MHz >>> OC 756MHz ~68% overclock
Memory stock 600MHz >>> OC 999MHz ~67% overclock >> Fark me 1GHz on memory on a laptop EEK

    Overclocked run 5010 points

    Overclocked run 2421 points

    Aquamark3

ran out of time so OC run only

    PCMARK05

ran out of time so OC run only

I also tested a HP DV6500T which has a GS card but the thermal design on HP was so much worse.....i was getting massive slowdowns/low point scores with really small OCs

Sony laptop has a killer thermal design....and i could not hear any fans either EEK >> the LCD screen is still one of the best ones i've seen and continues to be great and follow the footsteps of FE series laptops :thumb:. Lowest amount of reflection on glossy screen and some great brightness and colours.... it just looked awesome. HP was so reflective i could see myself in the freaking screen >>> how annoying lol

off to HWBOT to collect some much needed points now too

    oh easily top scores

yeah ORB distinguishes separately between mobile and desktop chips

if this was XP i would find a PLL to clock the CPU with SetFSB for some serious points haulage hahahahaha but this will have to do

i am seriously shocked that i managed to achieve such a massive overclock on the GFX card

Can clockgen work at all on the Santa Rosa notebooks? There were even problems with 945 mobos.

nah man those are the clocks for these cards

but overclocking low end is likely to gain higher MHz as manufacturers don't bin them as agressively as say 8800U for example

Doubt setfsb/clockgen works with it, neither has a complete database of all PLL's ever used.

neither do gigabyte boards but you can still use some of the PLLs to get them going

not to be stupid or anything but isn't undervolting a better idea for a laptop?

hahaha it is but the problem is how the hell do you undervolt
by reducing GFX card clocks? that would be a little foolish don't you think plus if that is the aim i don't know if yourealise but sony have a hybrid GFX system which (at least on some of their laptops) can be switched between dedicated GFX chip and onboard one to conserve power

    Sony rules! heh

    i also have a FZ17 with the T7300 CPU

just need to figure out the right PLL
i can see that unseen OCd his CPU on HWBOT
maybe i will ask him how he did that

you can't control voltage on these

maybe AMD laptops will have that option with some software package

    What?

you can't control voltage on these
RMCLOCK will allow you to control voltage.

Yes, but what about gigabyte boards supporting all PLL's? The programs CPUFSB, Clockgen, Systool, etc are what determine support or not, not motherboards.

I use RMCLOCK with my T7400 in a Uniwill P72 chassis (Alienware M5750), works fine.

Might be that you will have to wait for an updated version. Notebook hardware control (http://www.pbus-167.com/) might work too.

    .
you have to actually physically specify the PLL as the software does not normally detect this on its own

i am referring to clockgen and setFSB

    Yes, I realize this...

I stated the software does not have a complete library.

You replied with a statement about gigabyte motherboards which did not relate to software at all.

    Thus I am confused.
