    Asus P5K-E/WiFi-AP Bios Help?

    Hi Gang,

    I just installed a P5K-E/WiFi today with a QX6700.

    My load temps are in the 60*C range at default speed and the CPU voltage set to 1.3v. I have a Zalman 9700 with the fan at full speed for cooling. There are a couple of settings in the BIOS that I am unfamiliar with...

    1) CPU Voltage Reference
    2) CPU Voltage Damper (enable: helps to minimize vdroop)
    3) CPU PLL Voltage

    I realize that CPU temps can be totally different from board to board, but I would like to mimimize my temps on the P5K-E.

    Can someone explain these settings and the possible impact on CPU temps?

    Voltage Damper is to prevent Vdroop. I found it works better when target vcore is higher. I didn't try the other two, in fact, I didn't notice their existence.

    Did you OC? From my experience this board will automatically up voltage when OCing with vcore set to auto. Vcore is one single most important factor affecting core temperature. I read the VID from coretemp, found it's lower than the voltage set by bios auto vcore, so I manually set vcore to the same value as VID. You can try lower than VID, it's called undervolt. As stated in the bios screen. While overvolt might damage component, undervolt will only cause instability. So you can try how lower you can go. It usually reboot suddenly when voltage is not enough so should be easy to tell.

    In my case, vcore was lower from 1.35 (auto vcore) read in pc probe to 1.26 (set to 1.285 in bios), the core temp is lower by 5C.

    I haven't overclocked with this board yet. I just installed it last night. The AUTO overclocking features is also available in the P5B series board. The one thing I noticed when trying it is that the board tends to overvolt far more than needed. Therefore, I like to set voltages manually with any Asus board I own.

    I would still like to know what the CPU Voltage Reference and PLL Voltage does.

    dont use AUTO values, set every motherboard voltage value at their minimum except your vcore and your vdimm (put your known values). In the Advanced CPU Section check that this option is enabled ( PECI). If its disabled you will get higher temps.

    Back on topic. PLL voltage is for your pll (clock generator). More stable fsb. Of course I could be wrong seeing as how I can't read...

    Your remark was taken badly because if you have ever read an Asus motherboard manual you would know that none of that information is in it.

    My low post count means I don't post here a lot, not that I don't know anything about computers or how to read a manual. I have done a lot of searching and haven't found any good explanations for these settings.

    Hi there, this is my first post here but I've readed this thread 100 times... I think it's incredible. A lot of information... Too much for me.. xD I've bought this mobo and now I'm trying to get a good overclock. I'm newbie in OC so I need some advice. This are my specs:

    Asus P5k Deluxe Wifi-AP
    NZXT Apollo
    Conroe E6600
    Asus Silent Square
    2Gb OCZ DDR2 800 PC6400
    500Gb Seagate
    XFX 8800 GTS 320

    Firt of all I noticed that the mobo temperature is too high, 43º infront of 35º of one friend that have the same mb.
    What would be a good (and secure) starting point of OC? Latences, FSB, multiplier, voltages, etc...

    I need advice...

    When I asked that question a VERY smart, and helpful forum member gave me these settings as a reference point for a P5K Premium.. The FSB setting is for a high overclock so lower to achieve your goal.. Ex. 400 (FSB) x 9 (Multiplier) =3600 mhz. I am running a Q6600 GO.

    Legacy USB Support: Disabled (need to enable it to detect USB flash drives)

    Do not leave any of the voltages on auto because on P35 they will automatically raise with the fsb. The only things that should be left on auto I marked above.

    Now if you run into any instability you'll want to bump your vcore 2 notches first. If that is not P95 stable for at least 1 hour then you'll need to bump your fsb termination one notch along with nb and pll.

    Sorry to bump this thread but I have an issue with my board.

    It's seems this notes are right but I've tryied several diferents configurations but I'm not geeting higher FSB than 333Mhz

    The ram is not the problem, I have GSKILL 2Gb NQ series but I've tryied out with Crossair Dominator and it's the same.

    The CPU I'm using is a Intel E4300. I've test with 8x multiplier and I'm not able to POST on FSB = 334Mhz.

    Strange is that on FSB=333Mhz I post, run to windows and run orthos about 10hours (OK).

    Please someone can tell me what am I doing wrong?
