    L226WTQ VS 226BW (A Panel)

    The LG L226WTQ is cheaper.
Both are 22 inches, 2MS 1:3000 contrast blah blah etc.
The Samsung 226BW comes with the A version, which is not the best one (which is the S version).

Which one shows a better picture? Which one should i take regarding the facts above?

A panel can be vixed in Win XP 32bit, or vista 32/64bit via a color profile. Opt for the Samsung

I can get the L226WTQ for like 70-80 $ less than the 226BW + i prefer the looks of the L226WTQ.

havent made any direct comparison between these two ie tests; my impression is that samsung has the edge with input lag and response time acceleration; but ive seen the lg and the bezel is good and it has a good still picture.

the lg could be better for all i know - i havent seen any proof to the contrary....yet

i bet they are extremely similar in performance and rely on calibration anyway for final color/contrast adjust/personal viewing preference/s.

i firstly bought the LG. wasnt very pleased , excessive backlight and horrendous viewing angles. the top of the screen too dark the bottom too light. then i returned it and got a 226bw, better colors less backlight but worse uniformity . but taking everything into account the sammy is better and worth the money.

    and i have a C panel...
    E8400 E0 @ 4.00 GHZ, DFI P45 T2RS+, 4X2GB Mushkin 1066 996599, Radeon 4890 , Enermax Liberty 620W , 4X500GB HDD+Samsung SLC 64gb SSD.

all paired with a LG 245WP

i'm lovin' my 226WTQ so far. i have to mess with the height a bit to get it to view properly (w/o having dark top light bottom) but other than that.. i've been very happy... slight backlight bleeding around the edges but only noticeable when the screen saver is on. i have no ghosting in games so i'm happy

i bought the 226bw after reading reviews about a month ago but picture was awful then discovered the A & S panel nonsense

then i bought the L226WTQ and it was no different!! was manufactuered July and the guy at the whole salers said he had a few others return it because of the exact same problems. LG said it just needed calibration but had to take pictures to convince them that only 3/4 of the screen wasnt right

greys top and bottom arent the same colour, also left to right

colors speak for themselves, notice they brighten / fade towards the right

see how bad it is with the black around the edges of the picture

colors get brighter towards the bottom

again colours speak for themselves, color of barrel, hand & blues etc

a few will argue to adjust the brightness blue etc but as you can see it's as though the top left quarter of the LG is better than the rest, but even the top left bit alone doesnt compare well. the colours fade and brightness increases down and towards the right (not to mention the awful backlight bleeding).

the monitor on the left is a 3yr old 19" HP L1955 - 16ms, 250cd/m2 1000:1 ratio compared to LG's supposidly superior 3000:1 300cd/m2 2ms panel. you'd argue the widescreen is the older & poorer technology.

i loaned the hp from a friend for the pictures as i sold my TFT the moment i bought the samsung (wish i hadnt). i've gone out and bought a HP L1965 and cant believe the difference, it makes the LG and samsung seem like budget screens and is slightly better than the 1955

Yeah you see calibrating involves the WHOLE screen. if you look at the pictures you will see that the colors are different top to bottom and left to right. They are un even throughout. If i adjust the screen in any way it effects the entire picture, not the 3/4's that have the problem.

The guy at the whole saler said that a few people have returned the monitor with the same color balance / bleeding that I have reported.

Simply comparing it to an older, less spec'd screen, the new one looks like a budget unit, and yes the colours it was set at was adjusted and adjusted to try and get the best picture, i even used used a few forums for advice. After giving up I took the pictures to prove the problem it suffered from.

unless you can find a samsung 226bw made before march dont buy it as it will be a C or an A panel. There is a very slim chance someone will have old stock, not worth the risk and if you commit your cash of that amount to what will feel like a budget screen, its only going to grind on you

the lg i got was made july, the reviews of it said it was good but i can only assume that the one i got has gone low budget screen manufaturer like samsung did, a very under handed thing to do.

i read that these new LED TFTs are coming out before christmas which will not suffer back light bleeding and feature better dithering technology for true color. so for the meantime i bought a 19" tft until they hit the shelves.

i scour ebay for a second hand 226bw but after a month nothing, might aswell wait for the new ones.

start googling mate, you wont want to part with your cash when you see everyone complaining and referring to it as a "panel lottery" and the odds are deffinately not in your favour

as i said, im holding out for the newer panels, they are only going to push the prices of the current panels down somewhat

if you turn brightness and contrast to 0, press menu and then hold source for 4 seconds you get a secret menu which will tell you what panel is in there. if the panel is made after march 2007 then it wont be an S

as for the WTQ. there are 3 versions, WF, BF, BN and the latest being SF. i had the sf and as you can see from the pics above, is terrible

S panel or A panel are the best, the 226BW "C" panel is terrible, at least the A panels colors are correctable with wincolor, or vistas built in color profiles.

the 226cw is supposed to be without issue. not released here over the uk yet. then again the 226bw was the same, but after some time of popularity they went cheap on the screen

i got stung by the samsung (made june) and the LG (made july) so i am holding back until the new ones come out towards the end of the year. what both companies have done is underhanded.

the samsung i had was the A panel and tweaked with ICC profiles and such and still got blue hints and horrible back bleeding - not as bad as the LG above though. The LG i bought was the SF version, according to a few reviews and some people on other forums, that was the version to get so i specifically asked for an SF from the wholesaler. It was terrible as i said but it could be that there are 2 versions of the SF and i had the rubbish one? i can only speculate.

manufacturer's shouldnt be allowed to do this. i have seen a samsung 226bw s panel and must say it is awesome indeed. if you are intend on a 22" right now i would scour ebay and private ads, you may get lucky?

Got LG 226WTQ-WF last wednesday and I'm lovin' it. Calibrated colors with easyrgb. Screen is very sharp and colors vibrant. No dead pixels and ghosting. 1.14 firmware inside.

What is/was the firmware of that WTQ-SF? Monitors that came with firmware earlier than 1.14 suffered from ghosting/input lag. Here in Finland those can be send to service to update to newest 1.14 firmware. No ghosting/input lag after firmware update.

the one i had was 1.14

family man can you compare your screen to my screenshots above and do the mspaint test and see if the colors fade at all. also check for backlight bleeding

it could have been a faulty batch as the wholesaler said he a few returned with the same color issue. the one i had was manufactured july, if yours is made earlier its possible they have changed the screen and thats what i had, alternatively i suppose it could be a faulty batch
