775 Mobo Backplate Recommended - Yes! (Photos)

The last time I tore down my rig, I added two MCW30s (hard mounted) and two EK MOSFET Blocks. I also did some flow tests.

When I mentioned that the MOSFET blocks were difficult due to the Mobo bending, a few wise people commented on using a back plate. After looking at it again, man, should have seen that much bending - duh.

I bought a Scythe back plate from Petra and can show some before and after.

    Storm Mounted Only

Back plate really works great. No bending at all from the storm mount as before. It is not all golden, see next post for after pictures.

Here are some after photos. The EK MOSFET blocks mounting cranks in end moments and squishes the end chips and it barely touches the middle chips. See the thermal pads. It is a difficult install and it is all by feel.

Eddy needs to provide a small back plate for these.

I am going to chop up one of my extra back plates and make my own.

    Nice.

Am I right to say that the backplate stopped your mobo from bending, but now the backplate bends itself?

Thanks. No there is no back plate bending at all. It really stopped the storm mounting from bending the mobo as before. There is foam on the back plate to electrically isolate it from the mobo to prevent shorts I guess. It looks as though the back plate is bending in one picture, but it is only this foam pad compressing at the four corners where the bolts are, but not at the middle.

The mobo is not bent at all from the storm, but the EK MOSFETS still induce some bending.
