Crysis is only 10 hours long...

"We’re currently aiming for around 10 hours gameplay in the single player campaign (of Crysis) but, of course that time will vary from player to player." - Martin Lancaster main writer for Crysis

    Link

I'm not sure if anyone else knew this, but it's news to me.

Seriously this lowers my excitement for the game. I'm going to hate spending $50 on a brand new game for 10 hours of game play. I sure hope it ends up longer or individual time completing the game will vary greatly...it did take me about 40 hours to complete Far Cry - but I took my sweet time.

Not to mention the game is supposedly now delayed until November...or from IGN's comments it might not even show this year.

If, and IF, this is true. It better damned have some deep gameplay. Cutting edge visuals and expansive environments are not gonna be enough. Crysis might as well be a tech candy demo for this supposed length.

Welcome to 2007. Single player games are a complete rip. Gears of War was reviewed as one of, if not the best 360 games ever made and has stunning visuals yet I was able to plow through it in under 5 hours with a friend, and we didn't even try to go fast.

It's an FPS..and if its as open as they are touting, I'd say you can pull more than 10 hours out of it. I could plow through Far Cry but where was the fun in that? I loved exploring.

    Well, here's the interesting thing:

"Naturally, turning the whole jungle into a brittle popsicle of its former self only heightens the cathartic fun of smashing everything in sight. But despite the enormous amount of effort that went into the destructibility system, Crytek don’t consider it the most important feature of their futuristic new engine. That, they say, is the sheer size of the areas it can chuck around. Far Cry let you boat around huge rolling vistas before picking an angle of approach, but Crysis levels are bigger still; the one we played - the third mission of the game - takes two and a half hours to complete." - June 13th Hands on preview by Game's Radar

So I guess individual time will vary...but if you rush right through it, it will only take 10 hours...cause if the levels are bigger than in Far Cry it will take me longer than 40 hours lol.

It's ok, look how good Gears of War was, and it was extremely short also. Well just have to see.

Well if it took 20-30 hours, like most games I don't think I'd bother playing all the way to the end.

Providing there is a very good multiplayer option I don't think 10 hours is that bad at all.

This sucks. And seriously, If I am going to go out and spend a hard earned $50 on a game, it should be long.

The only reason that I am glad that they delayed it is so it is not so close to Halo 3's launch date.

Single player is okay - multiplayer is where it is at. I played through HL2 in the standard time and have logged HUNDREDS of hours of CS:S. The upgraded engine and graphics are worth it.

multiplayer games destroy anti-social behaviour, they must be stopped.

Oblivion was great if you wanted to just be immersed in a good game and not worry about others for a while, it would be bad to lose this kind of game with 30+ hours of replayability.

    That's my motto too.

When I've waited about 3 or 4 years for game and I'm forking over $50 give me my money's worth in game length.

For instance for HL2, I took my sweet ass time to complete (35 hours), and I thought the game was too short. I mean after waiting, what?, 6 years for a sequel....it could have been longer.

I can only hope so for HL3 because Valve even admitted that, as ground breaking as the game was, it was too short.

The current trend is to have everything tied into the Internet.. this game and it's engine will spawn so many mods it won't even been funny. Imagine the Source engine, hopefully Crysis can pull something like that off.

Ahh cmon what's wrong with devs today. Let's dive back into the old days.

Remember Final Fantasy RPG series which had like 40hrs+ of fun, for some 100hrs. They all where among the most entertaining games I've played. Then I must give some credit to Carmaggeddon 1 & 2 which I had SOOOO much fun with when I was smaller, it's not as fun anymore but they are still nice games. Others would be Unreal Tournament series, especially the 1st one released in 2000 which I still yet today play every now and then and find it fun even today! Then I also liked Duke Nukem 3D and other FPS games like Redneck Rampage and Outlaws. Like Duke Nukem 3D they also came with several campaigns or other gameplay options. To me it seems old school games have often more fun in them and longer lifespan. New games are being focused so much on the graphics so gameplay and lenght of the game often becomes rather bad with bad replay value although they are usually fun while you play it the 1st time though. FarCry is like the last "newer" game I played through twice but compared to how many times I've finished Duke Nukem 3D for example that's nothing (20 times perhaps? I lost the count...).

Moral of the post: Game developers stop having race in who's got the most beautiful looking game, give us nice gameplay and cut the gfx quality a bit if needed to find time (and size of the game to not become overhelming) to provide us much longer lasting fun experience. Eyecandy isn't the most important!

PS, furthermore I have to add: remember the amiga/commodore days? It was impossible to create visual looking great games back then, instead the developers had to use their minds and be creative to get a good idea how the game should be like and this resulted often in vary various types of games. I think the devs these days probably have gotten a bit too spoiled, we've got very powerful consoles and computers that can handle very nice graphics and there are so many tools to help in the developing process it's like the graphics have like replaced some of that old creativeness you found back in the old days. I think that's the biggest problem today in the games market.

Judge the game when it's out. That's all I have to say. Anything else is ridiculous.
They could also tell you that it has 100 hours of gameplay. So what? Who cares when it takes an individual player 3 hours to complete? Wait till it is available and some people actually played it. Then it's justified to judge if it is too short, OK or just the right length in regard of gameplay.

I really hope the game does not disappoint. I like multiplayers and single player is also tons of fun if you're into it. I play CS:S a lot (and knife the crap out of noobs), but I also enjoy playing Hlf2 and Hlf2 : Episode One (can't wait for Episode 2 to come out).
But so far, I am very impressed with what the Crytek team has done.

God I can't believe how people keep trying to find negative things to say about this game. This game is going to impress and don't worry about the 10 hours of game play. Crysis will have one of the most moddable engines of all time. You'll see quality add ons, extensions and mods up the ying yang.

There are already mods in development on the pre-release SDK which says something about the quality of modding you can expect. When development allows teams access to the SDK and game engine before the game is even released it shows overwhelming confidence in the engine potential.

You can expect lots of community based mods after release. Take a look at the Sandbox editor videos and you'll soon realize just how easy it is to mod with Crysis. Everything is essentially select and drop with real time addition and instant playback.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

LOL why are some people whining about the length of the singleplayer part of the game.. these days FPS's are all about online gaming.
