    Question Intel Quad 6300/6400 info?

I was wondering what is the information that we have on the following processors: Intel Q6300 and Q6400. Sources are greatly appreciated and so is some around the ball park pricing. I'm building a new rig near the end of august, so I'm probably going with a Q6400 CPU. Thanks in advance.

I don't think these will be released and the Q6600 will become the entry level quad core... but I could be wrong
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Correct, the Q6300 and Q6400 were trashed in favor of a cheap Q6600. Q6600 drops in price to $266 per CPU per 1000 on July 22nd making any cheaper quad's fight with the dualies.

Are you 100% sure? Cus I'm really hoping you're wrong I was counting on the lower clocked quads to help save sum $$$. But if not, I'll bite on the Q6600. I read the samething on a different forum. But MaximumPC had a very short 2 paragraph notice about the lower clocked quads. They got this information from MSI's website when they saw that some boards said that they support the Q6400 or Q6300. I'm wondering where you guys are getting your sources from...(not trying to be hostle or anything by all means, I'm here to learn )

Yes, he's right. The Q6300 and Q6400 have been droped from the roadmap, just like E4200, but that's another story.

Would it be a good idea to go with quad core right now at the price drops, or wait a while for penryn. Please take my system (sig) in consideration. It's been 3 years *weeping in aghony*

They wont come out as Q6400, but there will be a Xeon quad core with the same specs as the Q6400

Well, if you don't mind the high power consumption, you can go for a Kentsfield, otherwise you might wanna wait for Yorkfield, but that's a pretty long wait. On the other hand you don't really need a quad-core yet, so you could also go for a cheap dual-core (E21x0, E4300) and then after a year or so, when Yorkfields become really affordable, make the switch. Just make sure you buy a P35 board, so that you won't have any surprizes.

this is the great stuff with Intel at the moment they overclock very well with a decent mobo (I recommend P965/35 chipset based mobo's) ... you can grab eg a 4400 and overclock it without a breeze to 3ghz and with the correct cooling even up to 3.6ghz...
