Intel X38 to vastly exceed the P35, get SLI license.

Seems many are impressed with P35...fact is Intel a have put a huge amount of work into X38 over P35 for over clocking, so much so they have designated the chipset as unique away from the 35 line...so this chipset is the first purpose build over clocking monster we will see from them....for one I can NOT WAIT!!

PCIE 2.0, dual 16X, enhanced FSB and latency tweaking with a much improved memory controller all lead to a platform Intel hopes will destroy the enthusiast market...I for one know some have already run SLI on this chipset and seen 8 to 10% gains in speed over 680i with first revision silicon, so its looking real good for when NV give in and grant Intel a full SLI lisence

Late August is when the boards will launch...so if you can just wait a little longer and resist P35 you will have what looks to be the fastest platform available this year.

The X38 + Penryn + 8900GTX SLI will be quite the performance system

Its been talked about before here. Sounds more like quadro SLI than "desktop" SLI.

I cant see nVidia throwing away the SLI on desktops. On workstations they have been forced to for a long time.

For that ONE workstation board they had at Computex doesn't really confirm SLI support on the X38. I'll believe it when I see X38 boards shows OFFICIAL support for this.

We all know it's possible to run SLI on Intel chipset based on the old "hacked" drivers we had a while back for the 7 series, but NV would be just shooting themselves in the foot if they allowed SLI support on Intel chipset diminishing their own SLI chipset market share.

Hopely it won't cost much. Though I wonder if new record will be set by use of heatpipes.

Would they not make more selling 2 gfx cards for every x38 that will be sold? I don't think nvidia would lose out licensing sli to intel

Not again, we've already had this discussion so many times...
There is no desktop /GeForce SLI support with X38, just Quadro SLI with the workstation boards.

And yes X38 will be a monster, right now Intel engineers are working on the BIOS and boards will be ready in August if everything goes as planned.

It will probably double-serve as the "professional" version of the 35, just like 975 was over 965.

Namely, the ECC memory I want will be in. Let's hope that max FSB doesn't suffer. And that it deals with DDR2, otherwise I have expensive paperweights

I find it odd that some who have no personal experience regarding this matter take such hard-line positions about a possible technology compatability that they can, at best, claim as based on sparse information from third parties alone. If you have doubts, simply state this and move on. There's really no point in arguing with others about what you think may or may not happen.

I've got my fingers crossed for this chipset, just hoping the boards are $250 a pop as that gets expensive when benching.

I'd like to see a 3 16x pci-e slot motherboard from intel. I need one slot for my areca card and 2 for SLI.

i'm predicting that nvidia will partner up with some board manufacturers to release SLi versions of their boards, so only some will be SLi enabled.

So pretty much, the X38 will be Intel's 680i and the P35 will be the 650i Ultra?
