Talking Need RAM cooling recommendation plz...

    Heyas,

My Abit Fatal1ty F-I90HD just pooped out a few days ago and I replaced it with the most excellent GIGABYTE GA-G33M-DS2R! Athough I’ve run into a few minor problems. I use to have the OCZ Blue LED Ram cooler attached to my 4 Gigs of RAM, but it no longer fits, because the Video cards sits less than 2mm (or less) from the clips that hold the RAM in place on the Mobo. I had to remove one of the clips, because the 8800GTS KO back heatsink won’t sit right with it there. Oh well nothing a little muscle couldn’t fix .

ANy way I need a new RAM cooler, but can’t seem to locate something that has very very narrow end clamps or something that attaches a small fan, 60mm-80mm, to the top of the RAM. Any thoughts?

Here are two I’m considering, but both still make me nervous. SOmething with a clamp that can hold an 80mm would be ideal, no?

    Corsair - http://www.frozencpu.com/products/53...html?tl=g40c18
    CoolIT - http://www.frozencpu.com/products/55...LED.html#blank

    Thanks for the help!!

How about the OCZ XTC Cooler? Unless that's the one you were running.

Yeah that's what I was running...the clamps won't fit. If I can find a way to attach without using the clips I'll be fine, but I can't think of anything.

    Thanks!

Antec SpotCool, do not even consider anything else if you aren't going to make one yourself.

    Nice ghetto mod!

The Corsair Dominator Airflow Fan or the CoolIT Ram System are the only other clamp on solutions that are available right now without making your own. Have you thought about the Antec Spotcool so you can place it anywhere in your case and bend it towards your ram?

Here is a link to a review showing it blowing on some ram. You can connect this anywhere in your case via a motherboard standoff screw. The neck then tilts anywhere you like to where you want it to cool.

    http://www.xsreviews.co.uk/reviews-77.html

BTW, how did you like the OCZ XTC cooler when it ran on your other setup? Did you find it loud? Did it cool well? I am really wanting a ram cooler myself but can't decide on whether to get the OCZ, Corsair or the CoolIT myself. Hard choice for something so simple.

Saw this "ghetto" solution a couple weeks ago here, on another thread, and HAD to do it myself!

Only change, I used rubber bands on each end, instead of the clothes hanger. I stretch the rubber bands around the mem clips, and all's good!

Hey you know what I just did a built with another EVGA 680i TR version though and I bought the OCZ ram cooler for that build ..you know bling factor... but the vid card would not install with the knurl knob on so I just used a small machine screw they sent with the kit and its installed and works fine and is quite secure!

Buy products that work ... like these nifty coolers from Thermaltake that I just recently did a review of:
