Opteron Price Change Notice Effective June 4, 2007

From a mail I got around 3:00 EST Today... I did't see anything about these pricecuts so I thought I would throw it out there for comment (maybe this is why Newegg dropped the 165 price recently)

    Begin message:

At AMD we’re better positioned, together with you our channel partners, to compete in the ever changing marketplace. Our commitment to you has never been stronger.

Today we deliver a true price/performance competitive advantage, while providing a complete product portfolio so you can offer your clients a compelling selection of solutions at the right price. We are creating better communication vehicles to stay in touch on a regular basis and provide the information you need to better manage your business.

With that said, AMD wants you to know that on June 4th, the AMD Opteron™ 100/1000 Series processors will have a price move of 10% - 50%. (the bold is their emphasis not mine) We have a strong value proposition against the competition and these new prices will enable you to offer your clients AMD-based server solutions at competitive prices.

Please contact your authorized AMD distributor for specific pricing and availability details.

Our objective is to work side by side with you to achieve our mutual goal of success in the marketplace. To do so, it’s important to provide you with the tools to help your clients understand the value they get when they purchase AMD-based solutions. We have recently added new marketing literature to help you sell AMD Opteron solutions. Please visit the AMD Market Builder web portal to check out these new materials.

We want to ensure your continued success as our channel partner and hope that these communications are helpful. Your feedback on the materials we’re providing and your input on the tools you need to improve your AMD business is appreciated.

Let your customers know that, plain and simple, AMD is the smarter choice.

You can contact us at any time via our channel partner email address: solution.provider@amd.com.

I wonder how they'll go against the new lower-end intel chips.
