    Mushkin Madness XP2-8500 @ 1200MHz

The Opteron 1212 must run off the M2n32-SLI Dlx (BIOS 903) 800MHz divisor as the final jump-off point, but at 10x300FSB and on default Vcore there's room to go. I've had the chip at 320FSB on default Vcore. The combination gives me DDR2-1200MHz and only 2.275V! I ran SPD for now at 5-5-5-18 but the bandwidth is amazing obviously due to the AMD on-die memory controller.

In fact I've been comparing my Asus M2n32-SLI to my Asus P5W DH (1901) C2D 6400 and no matter the kit there is a clear 50% bandwidth increase across the board.

I had to check the sticker on the memory when I saw CPU-Z ID at 600MHz (1200MHz)....

all it does it look pretty though, there is no difference in stability or performance
Got a fan over those memory sticks? No? Well get to it before you kill them

Why aren't you showing the memory speed in cpu-z?

well I figure you can see the memory speed in Sandra, I thought it was more important to show SPD to identify the kit, but here ya go.

I've been trying to run at CL4 at this speed but no go. The kit doesn't like voltage it works better down around 2.2V ~ 2.30V

CPU-Z is identifying Vcore incorrectly it's at 1.34V although I always try raising it with AMD because of the on-die MCH

For a XP2-8500 kit this is still good. I have to switch to my C2D rig to see where the P5W DH can take it then onto the Gigabyte P965 DS3 tomorrow.

Well the review I'm finishing now on Crucial Ballistix and Super Talent DDR2-1000MHz have each running CAS4 beyond 1000MHz and CL3-3-3-12/CL3-4-4-12 to 800MHz, but these sticks cannot hang CAS4 above 1000MHz.

I wonder what's under the heatspreaders

i'm pretty sure they have D9GMH chips.i was hoping for at least 1000mhz 4-4-4-12.oh well.you think they're worth the extra $50-60 over the cellshocks or team(cas4) 6400,assuming you may want to run them close to 1000mhz?

Why do you think they will do better on intel? I have a p5wdh also but this run is on 680i at 2.35V spd timmings, same ram.

The heatspreader came of mine when I pushed the ram onto its slot. They ar D9GMH chips.

You mean on the Mushkin 8500? The heatspreader came off?

Because I notice if the DIMM is a tight fit the HS seem likely to "slip" off. What I do is try to press down on the exposed PCB at each end. You put pressre on the PCB not the HS.

I can see that happening because when you push down on the top of the HS the tape or epoxy contacting the IC's is where the downward pressure gets transferred.

In just the right (or wrong) scenario trying to push from the top of HS causes the heatspreaders to butterfly outwards pulling free from the epoxy.

You have to get your fingers on each end of the PCB where it protrudes out from the HS. Although it's difficult because the ends are sharp and difficult to push down on. The other option is hold the memory where the HS meets the IC's and simultaneously press down into the DIMM while pressing in on each side of the HS where they meet the IC's so they don't slip off.

Well I am limited by the Opteron's overclock. 10x300FSB from the 800MHz divisor is the max memory speed I can get. If I understand your logic you don't think my kit will overclock any higher, but what I'm saying is I can't give them the chance based on the AM2 opteron 1212 Asus M2N32-SLI system because 800MHz is the bootstrap which doesn't increase with CPU speeds as the Intel chipsets do. In other words when in a P5W DH BIOS if you increase CPU speed the divisor changes. On the AM2 socket board 800MHz is the memory ceiling.

However on the P5W DH or P965 DS3 my FSB and bootstrap options are obviously much much higher. My E6400 does 420FSB at default Vcore 1.30V on the Asus and I haven't even pushed this chip on the Gigabyte board yet.

I find it interesting your kit does 600MHz as well, this could mean the memory may be a great overclocker for many.
