    Exclamation *UPDATED* E6420 3.66 gHz @ 1.50v/8800GTS @ 621/986

I just put together my new system, and I've put it through its paces and found how high it can go with all stock cooling and voltages. My temps aren't great, and neither are my clocks, but I should have the parts and the time to redo the cooling next week. For now, I think I'm doing pretty well for my first overclock.

    System:
    C2D E6420; Batch # L647G476
    DFI Infinity P965-S
    G.Skill F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ
    eVga 8800GTS 640MB
    Corsair 620HX

I hope to do a lot better once the new cooling is in, as I'm sure my CPU will really take off when I apply some more volts to it. I'm taking it slow, though, since I'm only about half sure of what I'm doing. Any tips (especially concerning the DFI BIOS) would be appreciated!

    *UPDATE*
New cooling is in, and I realize I have made a terrible mistake. The fans I installed are way too loud. It sucks that I'm going to have to buy new fans, these ones are just overkill...

The good news, though, is I have about unlimited cooling potential.
I have pushed my system up to 1.55v, but I don't seem to get much more out of it. I'll get "Machine Check Exception" blue screens when running Orthos. Best I'm getting at these voltages are between 450 and 460 FSB, just shy of 3.7. This will be good for my 24/7 clock, but while I've got the overkill cooling I want to see how high this chip can go.
I have some questions about that...

    1) How high can I take my CPU and NB voltages? Default is 1.35v & 1.25v, respecitvely.
    2) Where can I monitor my NB temp? Everest shows an "Aux" sensor in addition to my MB sensor, which is it and about at what temp should it ideally be running?
    3) In the DFI BIOS, there are many settings I have never seen before.
3a) What is the bootup clock?
3b) What is the PPM CPU feature?
3c) For best performance, what should the DRAM config settings (DDR Config Mode, GTL+ Driving Strength, Enhanced Data Transmitting, Enhanced Addressing, DQ Calibration, Channel 1 CLK Fine Delay, Channel 2 CLK Fine Delay) be set at?

I'll get new screenshots up tonight, the best SuperPI I've gotten is about 13.6 seconds.

I will be doing air cooling, namely Thermaltake HR-03 & Ultra 120
Now, as far as this video card is concerned, it's really hot! Even at default speeds, it gets up to 89C. Is that really bad?

I like how coretemp identifies the e6420 as e6500

Looks good so far.... I look forward to seeing what that chip will do with better colling and more volts. This might be just what I'm looking for.
The little air system that could.

@rvd: CPU-Z actually shows it as an E6400, it's just I moved the JPEG quality slider down a bit too far and mussed up my screenshot.

@DAK1640: pcsuperstore.com, recieved CPU Friday afternoon

Hey Oshox I bought one from pcsuperstore as well. How long did it take you to get it after ordering? And did they send you a tracking number? Just curious, never done business with them before. I see you're a fellow zonie. Looking forward to summer I'll bet? LOL.

Thank you oshox. I am glad you got a great chip. I too am interested in Peakr's questions. I am in the same boat.

I ordered my CPU Wed. morning and payed for 2nd day air shipping. My credit card was actually declined when I ordered, but they called me and I had them re-run it after I talked to the anti-fraud from my card issuer. So, basically, the order went through at about 1:30 p.m. PST, and it was delivered about 5:00 p.m. the following Friday. Exactly how online shopping should be, if you ask me.

below 90c would be preferable i think for da gcard....

i also heard that up to 100c is ok...but i wouldn't feel too comfy about that temp :/

Have you already set a manual fan speed for your vga in rivatuner? If you let it on auto it gets alot warmer than when you would set it at, for example, 75%, which is just on the border of it being able to be heard.

In that pic, yes I had fan speed at 100%. With my new HS and fan, I see temps about 20C less.
