MS Dual Core Patch - For Intel Chips?

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256

You guys may remember this patch from the dual core opteron days. In it's earlier iterations, I believe it was designed solely for AMD dual core's. However, it's been updated recently and according to posts otherwhere on the internet, is useful now for ALL dual core processors of all brands. My question is, since I really I have no idea, is this a smart thing to install on a Core 2 or is it for circumstances that don't affect us enthusiasts? I read through this a bit and it seems like it makes sense, but I'd like to hear it from someone who knows.

Intresting, I "thought" the intel chipset drivers came with something like this but i have nothing to back that statement. Would like somone with info to chime in on this as well.

I would be a test dummy but not sure what benchmarks I could run to tell if this actually makes a difference.

I'm really just waiting for someone who looks like they know what they're talking about to tell me to install it. Even if it does nothing, the placebo effect will be enough for me to be happy.

The Intel dual core patch is ONLY if you are using C1/EIST and other Throttling options in your bios.
if you have C1/EISt turned off like you should, then the patch wont do anything.
and the patch description clearly states that fact.
"These are the rules. Everybody fights, nobody quits. If you don't do your job I'll kill you myself.

The dual core patch for AMD dual cores did nothing for me in terms of performance or compatibility with the games I played or programs I used, so I saw no need for it.

Does anyone seriously use any power saving settings on their Xtreme computer? Like Lestat stated that crap is disabled anyways.

I will try and whip up some benches with in the next week using a Centrino Duo with power settings enabled. Running on DC is the only time i would ever consider turning these options on.

Hmm I'll have to give this a try. When I had my ds3, I was running 3.2ghz with 1.375v vcore. If I had c1e/eist enabled, it'd only drop multi under idle. As long as I had vcore set other than normal, it wouldn't alter it.

However, with my p5b, even with whatever vcore I set, it would still occasionally drop in idle cycles. I like this for lower idle temps and power consumption. However, the problem was that sometimes, it would improperly drop vcore to 1.10v under load as well and cause a crash. That's prompted me to disable c1e again like we were all told to. Maybe this will fix that again and allow me to use c1e with my p5b.

IIRC, all this did for A64/X2 was to make c'n'q go from 6x multi to the top multi in one jump, instead of going up 6,7,8,9 etc depending on how much cpu usage % there is.

EIST already does this so afaik it won't help at all
