looks like the GeForce 8600Ultra will be about half the performance of a 8800GTX.

OMG - use the edit feature and delete the darn post yourself
Sorry 4 that in most forums you don't have this option, didn't see it

Guess it's on 128 Bits - GT doesn't look very promising, Ultra seems similar whit actual 7600GT but might have better performance in DX10 if the specifications related to it or true.

am I the only one here that finds the matching number of transistors for the 8600Ultra and the 8600GT rather surprising (considering the different number of shaders)

    Lazer cut? BIOS Disabled?

What kind of performance should we expect out of this from DX9 games? 7950 ish?

Remember this is not your average chip. 300M transistors is nothing to sneeze at, so they always have the yield issue. If these specs are indeed true.

By the way the cooler in the pic looks really crappy. I think it is the 8600GT, because I can't see how the 8*** series architecture at 500mhz with 300M transistors could be kept cool with this thing.

The most important info we miss here is the memory buswidth. What would they mean with "CMOS"?

    1400MHz 128bit GDDR3 ????????

same memory bandwidth as the 7600GT

the card wont be faster than the 7900GTO @ Dx9 games

Sign me up, my 7600GT is getting a little long in the tooth and I'm maxed at 1280X1024 so no need for a monster card.

But wouldn't the Ultra atleast have to be 256bit because of the 512MB RAM??

No, density varies and so does IC buswidth.

PCB size limits the memory bandwidth

It will be 4x 64MB (or 4x128MB for 512MB version)

    the bigger PCB size

the higher manufacture cost & final price

So the unofficial vote so far is that it will be around 7900GT speeds then?

at the bottom of the link in the TS u can go to page 2 wich brings info on the 8300 cards.

    http://66.249.93.104/translate_c?hl=...language_tools

although the amount of transistors in the 8300 seems a bit off.
