Doesn't this make sense? How much more does it cost these manufacturers to use these? When you are buying millions at a time I'd think that cost difference wouldn't be that much. It certainly shouldn't be that big of a difference to justify the additional cost to consumers.
Quite a fanfare, that was. Just to say they've welded some memory and new fancy capacitors to it. ASUS must have hired the bloke in charge of BMW advertising.
The amount of Asus mainboards being released lately is redicolous. I would be very dissapointed to see that a new P5B is being released a few weeks after I just got the "old" one.
They are releasing new boards faster than new bios :/

You're totally right, they should concentrate on 1 or 2 good boards and not making more and more different ones.
And all of that source is portable, except for this tiny kernel that you can (provably: I did it) re-write totally from scratch in less than a year without having /any/ prior knowledge.

and what makes it any different than the aluminum polymer caps that DFI, Epox, Gigabyte, MSI, and foxconn uses?
Well, I don't know about the capacitors Asus uses, but ABit uses among some caps I can't identify, some sanyo os-con SEP, the best there are for digital PSU. The same caps can be found on high end gfx cards.
Very high ripple current and very low ESR are the words of the game. You may compare the datasheet of the SEP to those of others if you feel like.
This one be high quality. Meaning, it would blow up in a million years.
ummm no, the longest lasting caps are Mica/glass caps but they are only expected to last 100 years (some people say forever though) but they are far from compact or from being remotely cost effective.

A single 6.8uF mica capacitor costs 498eur. And it's huge.

Well, that would also mean to help you beat myself...
I also believe the organic/solid polymer caps have a much longer lifespan than the standard alu ones, but it really doesn't matter, I don't plan keeping any board for 30 years
At the same time, these caps also mean better quality, and that is not a bad thing to have especially on a mainboard.

what are you ranting about now? these solid caps would have much better electrical performance, and they CANT leak, bulge, or pop like electrolytics can.

imho this is just insane, in the time of the p4 you had p4c800 and p4c800 deluxe and that was it. their starting to act like ea, no bug fixes, no decent support, way overpriced ( striker is 340 euro's here in the netherlands ).
