You could've at least opened it up and given people an idea of whether there's 1 or 2 CPUs. That box doesn't look big enough to hold 2 stock coolers, and AMD claimed these were to be priced and sold in pairs, not single.
Yeppers, only one CPU as shown on the pic below. (Damn my cheap camera.)Originally Posted by SaFrOuT

Heatsink is the heatpipied one. I don't think I will need an aftermarket cooler since the 80mm fan is attached to the heatsink by four plastic clips. I will just replace the fan.

What the hell? Why did AMD make such a big deal about pricing these in pairs?
No idea. I guess AMD wanted to create some sort of hype to counter Intel's recent attacks.Originally Posted by Omastar

The bottom line is, I have no idea.

Set it to Tv (Shutter priority) and put it on a tripod (or stable surface), set the shutter speed to 1/15th in artificial light, it should turn out ok. Make sure you manually set the flash to off (it's either right or left on the canon function thing next to the lcd, looks like a lightening bolt).Originally Posted by alucasa
Or if it has the option just set it to P (programmable mode) and turn the flash off and the camera will automatically set shutter and aperture.
Thank you much. It is working out much better now.Originally Posted by Nephilim

It may also have a macro mode (opposite side to the flash setting) which will help with closeupsOriginally Posted by alucasa

At first I saw two processors with two chips each - now - One processor with four chips on one die.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so,so jealous Alucasa mate, you are the luckiest person on this planet to have Quad Fx in your hands now.
Can't wait to see it fully set up and benched by an xtreme member who will finally be able to give the system a right good going over.
I just wish I had Quad Fx in my hands.Still nowhere has it for shipping internationally with decent prices.
Thanks so much for the pics Alucasa, you are known as Quad, hehe.
How I got the CPUs is funny.
NCIX has them instock but they told me that they are not allowed to sell the CPUs themselves since they are meant for their special quad FX builds.
So, I ordered them from DirectCanada which is NCIX's sister site and shares the same stocks. My first quad FX-70 CPU box arrived yesterday from DirectCanada actually but I missed it. I just need to pick it up.
The box I showed to you guys is actually the second CPU box.
Right now, I ordered the ASUS L1N64-SLI motherboard from NCIX and it seems they might refuse to ship (trying to get them talk to me for 2 days without much of luck). If they do refuse to ship, I am just going to order from DirectCanada.
I am not expecting that the new system will OC greatly. As far as I know, K8's limit is pretty much around 3ghz. The CPU is already clocked at 2.4ghz stock.
And two of them will be there with 125w consumed from each.
Furthermore, 10 HDDs plus a Geforce 7900GS.
All on a Silverstone 750w strider...
OC the rig and it might explode.

well, technically, no one is supposed to be selling them before 1/22 (according to several distributors) so.....extremely good luck that you got them early.

Heat: 50 - 0 - 0 under "Argus333"
The boxed 4 heatpipe cooler is VERY good. The fan is an 80mm delta and draws a wopping .75a at full speed. Thermally controlled speed. Held my 3800 x2 @ 2.8ghz 1.55v dual 32m or so. An 80cfm fan on top only gained me an extra 50mhz at the expense of MUCH more noise. Just keep them stock.

They're only gouging $50, just 16.7% more than AMD's prices for the FX70 (btw, your $500 is Inq's price, not AMD's). That is pretty generous, compared to when QX6700 was gouged over 69%.Originally Posted by SaFrOuT

Newegg always gouges and others are following. BTW AMD MSRP on FX-70 pairs is $599 (might be in units of 1000 to) and newegg is selling OEMs for $304 each. Should be at MSRP for retail chips soon.

now that would be killer.
