    Scythe Infinity on Gigabyte motherboard

Does anyone know if Scythe's Infinity CPU cooler fits on a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 motherboard? From the looks of it the capacitors around the CPU on the m/b will either stop the cooler from fitting properly or will get damaged from the pressure.

    Plz help!!!

I'm having exactly the same doubts about Zalman CNPS9700 LED. The capacitors are pretty close to the socket and the whole is surrounded by chipset heatpipes.

The Infinity will fit, the Ninja also fits + a Tuniq Tower. There are no clearance issue with the Infinity + Ninja...it's been tested.

What about the backplate on the Gigabyte boards? SOme coolers require them to be taken off. I notice the Scythe's use the same attachement procedure that Intel stock is using. If it's just that, that's something some manufactuers could take an example off.

Well, did it fit? How easy was it to install on the DS4?

For the Scythe Infinity + Ninja...no need to take off the backplate/Crazycool. As Scythe uses the standard Intel push pins. For others such as Thermalright Ultra-90/120 (both tested to fit/no clearance issues) you need to remove the crazycool backplate for the Ultra-120 while the Ultra-90 uses the same Intel push pins.

Tuniq Tower requires backplate removal, due to weight issues.

You just push the pins down, follow the Scythe instructions...it's rather simple and not much force is needed, listen for the "click" sound, if you can turn over the mobo to see if the pins are properly showing on the backside of the mobo...careful to put your hand on the cooler while turning over the mobo.

Well, things are a little bit cramped in there but it fit just fine. I don't have previous experience on installing cpu coolers so I can't say if it was easy or not.

It was definitely easier than expected and as simple as Richard says.

It does take up alot of mobo space, as it's a very large heatsink, it depends on what kind of case you have etc., but in general you'll be able to get to everything on the mobo when nesscary.
