    Yet another Diying pump (D5)

Woooohoooo! .... My D5 died while i was sleeping and while the computer was running ...

If some of you seen my previous post about my MCP355 whit Petra's top leaking because i forgot to put the O-ring whit the new top... which was sticked onto the stock top of the MCP355 which is why i forgot about it. Well i had to re-do my watercooling system about 3 times. Because the pump leaked, then i dried it (for 24h), cleaned it and then hooked it back in to see if it would work and it did not so again ... Remove all the stuff, cut some more of that expansive tubing and re-did the WC set-up whit my D5. Now after 4 days working on it i got my comp to run whit my D5 and my new Storm. Temps were pretty good so i was happy..

Now i was working on Overclocking my vid card yesterday... and went to bed while i was scanning for artifacts whit ATItool ... I woke up and saw the comp shut down ... so i was like "Now what" ... Had a look at the comp everything was perfect ... so started the comp it booted fine for like a sec and then shutted down ... Now i was like WTF ? Booted again and it did the same thing ... Now i realized that the flow when i was booting wasn't going! The pump wouldn't start at all ... I touched the tubing around the CPU and it was Damn hot! Thank god the Mobo is enough smart to shut itself down when the CPU runs extremely hot! I could have lost my CPU and my GPU ... Anyways i remember i had a bad connection sometime whit my D5. It would just not start if the cable was sitting in a certain way so i had to hook it correctly and it would be alright. So i thought maybe the cable moved and that why it stopped. So i had a look at the power cable of the Pump and played a little whit it... then booted up and the pump didn't started. So i decided to hook up a PSU, bridge it so that it start without the mobo and connected it to the pump. After playing whit the cable i realized that the pump was doing a weird sound when it was powered on. It sounded like a "Clock" sound ... the damn pump was dead! So now im real pissed off and have to remove all the watercooling stuff AGAIN and put back in the Stock coolers ... DAMN PUMPS!

Any clues on what could have happened whit the pump ? it worked perfectly for months now and now it just decide to die ....!?

Im really clueless and REALLY discouraged ... I have a X6800 coming down this week and was willing to hook it under water ... Guess it's too bad...

If you don't get it working please let me know. I could use the pcb to fix mine.

In the future, its best to use two pumps for redundancy, even if the second pump put out extra heat into the water.

I was about to buy 2 D5 before i re-do this loop. But finaly i decided the use 1 MCP355 whit Petra's top... But i killed it ... So i had no other choice to go whit my D5 again... Maybe next time ill re-do my set-up which wont be until a month or two cuzz im really tired of re-doing it... ill get 2 MCP355 whit Petra's top in Parallele.

I just opened the pump and i see the PCB of the pump is cracked! at 2 places. Which may be why it's broken. Ill take pics later.

In series, dude,... in series.. you don't want to start a riot, do you? The flames are going to come thick and heavy just because you said "parallel" This is about the most intolerant crowd anywhere. I think you meant series. So it should be in series. T->DDC->DDC->Rad->Blocks->

What the h3ll? First time I've heard that. Since the last time I redid my loop I've been running my D5 24/7 on a separate power supply. Don't know if starting/stopping had any effect on the pcb (doubt it) or just a factory defect, but I think it's easier on a pump to run continuous.

Two D5s turned down to 3 or so probably wouldn't even make heatdump noticeable. Good save on the parallel/series issue, haha. It was about to be on and poppin'

But wait! D5 pumps never fail! /sarcasm

Anywho, hope everything works out okay, kind of an odd problem really...

(Btw, please no flames about my comment, it was a freindly jibe, I don't care if you use a D5 or DDC)

You can RMA the pump to Liang. If you don't want it, sell the new one or just toss this old one out if you don't want to hassle for $75.

The D5 is fine, same with the DDC, there was a sort of stigma against the DDCs after a single batch went bad, so certain people started flying the D5 flag. Don't worry about it, they're all built to last. (not to mention Ford Tough).

Well, i dont feel like messing around whit shipping and all the stuff that RMA involve so ... Ill probably end up buying 2 MCP355 whit petra's top and put them in series. If one stops for whatever reason at least there will be the second one. Im not taking any chance whit a X6800 ...

Im currently thinking of how ill mount them in my case thought... I used to have a Thermochill PA120.3 on the bottom of my case whit the pump hooked in the front whit some sort of wood plate it worked perfectly until the MCP355 starts leaking... Anyways, there is so much possibilities whit this case!

    Thanks for the Replys Guys!

    AFAIK, all Laing pumps have a 50,000MTBF (= 2083 days = 5 years n' 8 months)
