    8800 GTS vs. x1950xtx

How much more powerfull is the 8800 GTS? I have been out of the scene for just a couple months and a lot has chaged in such a short peroid of time. I have a 1950, I'm wondering if it would be worth the upgrade to a 8800 GTS? Is the performance gain too minimal to notice on any thing? My 1950 I can only run at 700/1100 max OC.
    Current Setup:
-9850 GX2's in Quad SLI config
    -Asus P5N32-SLI MB
    -2x512mb of PC2-5300 DDR2
    -Intel Celeron D OC'd to 3.2Ghz
    -Windows Me with XP theme
    -WD Caviar 20GB Hard Drive
    -Zip drive
    -Jazz drive
    -3.5" floppy drive
    -5.25" floppy drive

I'm quite impressed on how the x1950xtx keeps up with the 8800gts and beats it in some tests

Something to remember with the 8 series cards. nVidia AF is now more demanding and higher quality than ATi and certainly more so than the 7 series. Filtering detailed:

I'd still take an Evga GTS for 429usd from the Egg (Has a rebate).

Besides the new AF they have new higher quality AA modes. The GTS should have longer legs in shader heavy games and overclock very well.

    I won't bringing DX 10 into it.

ya but iw ouldnt pay to much attention to them numbers.

the x1950 is most likely all tapped out and new drivers will improve the performence of the 2 8800 cards in games.
Seeing the 8800GTS is unified you can very wel see big FPS improvements in new drivers.

Currently all games are Direct X 9 and most use shader 2.0, not even 3.0. So the 1950XTX is really one heck of a graphics card to use for current games. The 8800GTS has slightly better AA modes and AF modes, but when enabled, most games run slower than 1950XTX. In essence, is it worth the premium price to get an 8800GTS? I'd say it's worth only if you consider PS4.0 and DX10 essential to you.

I would say the upcomming CRYSIS game from Crytek will be the next big thing that will help demonstrate latest DX10 technology and usage. It's a wait and see for that.

BTW, the ATI drivers are continuously tweaked for better performance and compatibility on the X1x00 cards. And it never stopped improving since release of them, and will keep on improving.

Wow, I am very impressed at how the 1950 keeps up. Very impressed indeed.

nvidia has really been letting people down with their drives. Had problems with everything from normal gaming to video overlays freaking out with projectors, random panel crashes, all sort of garbage. Frankly I am done with them. Going back to Ati with their superior hardware and now what seems to be superior drivers.

I would hold on the X1950 and get the second generation of DX10 cards later down the road which should be cheaper and cooler. Or just wait till ATI released R600 cards which should be sometimes early next year i hope.

If you want to get something superior now then get the 8800GTX.

I noticed something thoe that previously probably have been overlooked. The 8800GTS is clocked at 500/1600. I wouldn't be surprized to see it overclocked to 575/1900. With that overclock, it should bring the card a little closer to GTX performances. The 1950XTX at 650/2000 is almost at it's peak, and 700/2200 would probably be a good overclock for that card. So in an overclocked benchmark, I would be surprized if the 1950XTX keeps up as well with the 8800GTS as we see in stock form.

That, and those are relitively new G80 drivers. Performance has pretty much increased by a sizeable amount (~2-5%) with each Catalyst release since the X19xx series was released.

Give the drivers time to mature.
