Big Typhoon modding(advice?)

well i have this idea to mod my big typhoon but i want some confirmation from you experts first. The blue represents the 80mm fan i plan to use, the red represents the heatsink fins and the yellow represents the heatpipes/base(http://img46.imageshack.us/my.php?image=demoni4.png ). do you think this would be possible and if it would be possible with my case orientation(http://img476.imageshack.us/my.php?image=demo2xm5.png)(blue is 120mm fan, red is the big t, yellow is 80mm psu fan and black is the psu) if i would get lower temps? sorry if these pics are bad

Don't waste your time. If you want better temperatures, try lapping the BT, plugging those gaps at the very ends with something, and putting on a higher cfm fan.

i'm sure the more you mod the BT, the worse your temps will get. you want better temps, just lap the base and use a higher CFM fan.

yeah, just do the usual two mods and maybe a better fan, can't beat that.

Ok, thanks guys. I will lap the base of it but i was wondering if you could post me a link to a walkthrough on how to plug the gaps.

take the fan off, and cover the spaces where you can see the heatpipes directly from the top of the heatsink. those are the "gaps"

and not only a higher CFM fan, but put a higher pressure fan on it also

Test things thoroughly, within the constraints of my testing, I got worse results with plugging the gaps.

Where do you get such a "better backplate" ?

I agree with Navig, I too got worse results when I plugged in the gaps with a high cfm fan. If you stay with the 54 cfm fan, plug the gaps. If you go to a high cfm fan (vx -86cfm, or denki/silverstone, etc.), don't plug the gaps.

high cfm fan alone seems to be doing the trick. Its around 90 cfm...

if you plug the gaps, dont stuff them completely, just put something over them to keep air from going there, foam insulations is just that, foam insulation....

i have a piece of plastic thats about a half mm thick, that i cut out specifically for my BT. basically the same kind of plastic that the BT comes packed in, the clear stuff on the outside, just get a sharpie and make a guide

also, naviq, if that was your lapping job in the link, you went too fast

high CFM fan didn't really matter much for me.

for my BT on my venice

i have lapped the base, i guess i should say ive sealed off the gap, and ive changed to a higher pressure fan, even though the CFM is probably worse or equal to the stock fan ( since i keep it turned down all the time on my fan controller, its a 90CFM sunon btw) and i lost at least 5 C on my idle and load temps

Good advice from a very knowledgeable and friendly member by the name of Cappie suggested turning your fan to a 'suck' position, rather and a push. While it didn't make a huge difference for me it did lower my load temps about 1-2c and at the same time I find it is quieter due to the way my panaflo sat on the uneven BT. Try and turn your fan around and see what you come up with.

wow, now that is definately different and nothing I would have thought of. I wonder if this really works?

It should work. Instead of having all the heat going through the heatpipes to the upper fan, the additional sinks should help with the dissipation, and also getting cooled by the upper fan.. it's brilliant.

Another Idea I had: You know how the BT is composed of two sides and then the center there's a gap? What if you were to plug that gap with something, which blocks about half the air going through the middle gap? Also, how about a fan duct, if you have the room?
