New C2D build - some questions...6300 @ 3.2 Ghz

I just got this up and running last night. Been using AMD for along time now so I have some questions that I could not find searching, I'm sure they are out there - I just haven't been able to find what I need.

1. Do you need to install any dual core software (MS) for the Conroe 2 Duo chips (for gaming issues like AMD had)?

2. My memory is my limitation. At over 465 FSB the lowest memory settings I have are over 930 Mhz and the memory just won't boot even with 2.10v selected. Do higher FSBs open up different options for the memory - or do I just need to get some faster ram?

3. Load temps at stock volts and 3150 Mhz are about 45 deg C. From what I've seen the C2Ds tend to run hotter than the AMD DC chips. Is this about normal load with the water cooling items listed above?

Any other thoughts, suggestions I'm open to. I feel like I'm a n00b all over again after spending the last few years mastering the art of AMD overclocking. I really enjoy the Intel overclocking experience again, it seems that with the AMD stuff you just hit a wall, with Intel you keep tinkering and movin' on up!!

Firstly, download memtest 86.
Lower your FSB and set a higher divider (like 4:5).

Search ur maximum memory speed. This way u shall find out if it is ur mem which holds u from >459.

I am not sure but p5b cant give more volt than 2.1 to Dimms. U could search for vmods.

-As far as i know, there are no dualcore software for Intel (i quess u meant the dualcore optimizer for AMD).

-temps below 65 degrees are allowed.

-u can enable Vanderpool (u dont use it, but its Ok enabling it)

The newer version of the P5B-E has 2.4 Vdimm, newegg sent me a rev 1.01G

Yea, for $180 I'm not complaining - I'm over 3.2 Ghz now stable, blowing away my AMD X2 3800 @ 3Ghz by a mile! At 2.4 I was beating my 3 Ghz x2 hehe.

i cant boot windows past 460x7 either [gigabyte 965p-s3, e6300, 2x512mb corsair ddr2 800 5-5-5-15]... no matter what vdimm & vcore i set... im kinda upset cause i can still successfully boot upto 500x7 [3.500ghz] but it wont load windows past 460x7 =[.

and as for the temps, at stock volts/hs.f/3.15ghz i run around 26-32c idle & load ~ 40-46c [depending on my room temp, at night my room is colder]

I know it's the memory. But it's a 6300 and running 7 x 465+ the memory is at 2.1v maxed and wont boot - I cannot lower the memory anymore The chip is still at 1.28v and prime stable to 465.

you are doing good man...that's a very good OC for the setup you got! Don't sweat it.

1. I would do what was recommended: run 4:5 and see where your memory wall is....then drop down and you know if your memory is what is holding you.

2. What are your SuperPi 1M times? with that OC and those latency RAM times, you should see 17.7-18.0

Thanks! Problem is when I choose the lowest memory divider above 465 Mhz, my memory wont do it. Even though the chip is still running a cool 1.28v - 1.30v and is prime stable at 465 x 7. I am fine at 465 and 466 - 470 won't boot. Im going 1 Mhz at a time to find out where the limitation is occuring. Its either a board limit or the memory since I cannot drop the memory speed any lower.

I was already about 17 sec SuperPI 1M

I already know the limit of the memory is about 930 Mhz. I know you can change it, I've done it. At 465 FSB the memory was at 930mhz, above that it will not boot. I've backed off the FSB and 930mhz 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1v is in fact the highest my memory will post.

Now, how can I get higher FSB that 465 and keep memory under 930 Mhz?
I've been playing with the first setting for the memory assuming it's the lowest divider due to the speed, when in actuality CPU-Z is showing 1:1. Maybe Im not understanding the dividers... the other settings are like 10xx and 11xx - which I know my memory cannot do... anyone?

no, you are fine. 1:1 is gonna give you the best overall performance.....I think you are pulling your hair for nothing! YOu have a great OC as is, and you should be happy with it.

matter of fact, I usually go down to 466 from 472 depending on how the weather is here....I try to keep my idle temps under 50C.

If you are getting 17sec SuperPi 1M with this OC and those RAM settings, I think you outta be extremely proud....I'm not saying I dont believe it, but I've never seen a 6300 with less than 3.3 do anything near 17secs flat.

I've seen people hit like 3.6 to 3.7 with their 6300. The difference will be almost insignificant.

I didn't think you could get below 1:1 because the ram has to run as fast or faster then the fsb. I think its only possible on the 754 and up AMD platforms.

Would you guys recommend the e6300 over an e6400? As I'm just trying to finalize my core 2 duo upgrade.
