Attention - FAKE LAING DDC PUMPS in circulation...

Some unscrupulous toerags have started cloning the Laing DDC, and selling it AS the Laing DDC. Beware.

Genuine is on the left. Fake is on the right.

PDF from Laing GmbH showing differences with german descriptions can be found here: http://yohanng.free.fr/fausse%20laing.pdf

Me - regardless of performance, if I buy a Laing DDC I expect it to be a genuine Laing product, not some copy who's decided to use the name.

If I buy a Ferrari, I expect it to BE a ferrari, not any other brand of car with a ferrari badge on it, regardless of performance.

    you cant be serious...

and sadly..I have seen a ton of those people with crappy red sports cars with a ferrari badge on it driving around sao paulo... there was this one I remember that had original ferrari wheels, and the badge in front and back on a red convertible FIAT....too bad it couldnt go as fast as a real one...maybe it could be mistaken for the real thing if he could manage to go by fast enough

I agree with Marci, if I buy a product because of the manufacture's name and reputation I want the original not a fake. There are so many low lives in this world it is just a shame that Nature did not do a better job pruning the gene pool. JMO

looks like the fake is around 330 l/hr vs 380 l/hr for the original ddc and 500 l/hr for the 18w version i think so you kinda get burned on that front too in addition to it being a fake

the nice thing is that the fake is significantly cheaper which is one thing I believed for some time (that pc watercooling pumps were a bit out of control in price).

Nah - same as usual - you're paying the price premium for an item that has a 50,000 MTBF... no other DC pump employed in PC Watercooling carries that kind of MTBF / Warranty... only Laing's...

(ie: 50,000 hours continuous use mean-time-between-failures - your pump is good for 50,000 hrs of use, which equals 5.7 years, in it's stock form. If it dies within that MTBF, you can fire it back to Laing for repair / replace. You're paying for the warranty...)

if the fake pump was better than the real pump. id buy the fake pump.

i really dont care if you buy something for the NAME.

    ill buy for the perfomance.

and as for the ferrari example, i wouldnt care if it was called ferrari but wasnt a real ferrari as long as it outperformed the real thing.

It seems to me. That when someone pays for something. They should get what they paid for. Not something else.
Still overclocking and water cooling. Old stuff mostly... Still buyin' new stuff for my huge monster case though..(Project on hold til' further notice.or til' I suddenly see a fair increase in income. (Even then the gunshows do tend to grab me!!!) But really no new rig to speak of. Currently C2D E8400 on H2O Giga' p43t W/ decent pair o' ddr3 sticks stuffed in a old aluminium coolermaster preatorian case with a shrouded PA140.3 hangin' out of the side.Needs some bigger fans to keep up with this yuma heat though.. TX850. GTX460.Old yellow 1/2" tygon tubing adds some petina to the dear old thing. (As if it needed any.)Really nuthin' to call home about here at least... LOL..

    Thanks for the heads up.

I agree. Fakes are fakes. It's not the name, its the quality.

Believe me if it would be a better performer than Laing it wouldn't carry it's name nor being a fake...

Is Liang a German company? That means the patent and copyright law is 98% the same as here in the Netherlands.

The brand name is protected and it's absolutely forbidden to use that, same for the DDC pro/ultra trademark. It's possible to get all sorts of claims from Liang based on this. But judging by these superficial pictures alone, it is *possible* that the design of the pump is different enought from the original to avoid any patents held by the original company.

There is no problem in shaping your product like the original, (square design with in- and outlet placed the way they are etc.) as long as you can know that it is not the original. Another reason to NOT use the Liang name and trademarks. But it looks like were dealing with real scumbags who want to charge Liang prices for inferior products, and try to get away with it as long as they can. Not a company that brings a clever copy on the market and is here to stay.

@vodka: Yes, Laing is a German company (established not to far away from the area where Mercedes Benz is from), even though the name doesn't sound even close to German
