Exclamation AW9d-Max: 4:5 ratio Kills performance!!

just got my rig built and got a horrible cpu score (3900) in 3dmark05, and 1300MB/s in sse2 floating point memory test.
i spent hours trying all options and i even made a post: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=117457
    24 hours later 0 replies

I ran 1 stick of the ddr2 and i got 4000MB/s in the memory test, so my Dual channel was obviously f**ed. However, i decided to try 1:1 ratio, just for the hell of it.......
Bam 6700MB/s and 10900 in cpu score in 35mark05!!!!!!!

So for everyone out there running 4:5 run the sysoft sandra memory bench and make sure everything is
    Conroe ftw

    btw memory is GSKILL-F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ

that was clocked at 3ghz with 1:1, i was able to reach 3.3ghz @ 1.375 vcore. all with a stock intel cooler.

right now im playing around with a scythe infinity i just installed. im running:
    eist, virtualization, c1e all off, 9x401 1:1 4-4-4-12 at 1.7mch 1.51 vcore 2.1 ddr. idling at around 50c tho

whats the typical mch voltage at 3.6ghz? typical vcore and temp?

when i first built this rig my goal was 3.6ghz 24/7 with a 4ghz max. but it looks like only water will get me there.

Are you cooling hte NB with a 40mm fan yet? If not defnitely try that and see if you can lower your Vcore a bit for stability.

I am waiting for Scythe infinity that will be here tomorrow morning. I will post up my results in here. I have the same components as you.

Remount cpu cooler, temps are way high for that voltage.

    Use alot of pressure

I Plan on runnin around 400 fsb though, so 1:1 it is anyway

what type of performance are you getting in 3dmarks and games with that x1900xt 256?

i plan on getting the same mobo and videocard with an e6600. thanks, and good info on the board.

According to Anandtech, Asus says that the 1403 BIOS adds support for Kentsfield. I am guessing that the entire 14xx series was meant to add support for it but they did not realize that the 1401 BIOS had leaked, so they said 1403. It might be that they finally figured out how to get the BIOS to support Kentsfield and function properly in 1407.

the 3d performance is great. the system completely stock, no tweaks, ati control panel running balanced i got ~11745 in 3dmark05 (i hope thats good)
im still mad i cant run 4:5 ratio. the aw9d just cant give me the fsb i need at 1:1 to make use of my gskill.

on most of the benchmark reviews i have read the 256mb x1900xt performs around 5% lower, 10% occasionally. however for 240$ at newegg, thats not bad. I also got a decent overclock out of it, 650 gpu and 792 ram, and thats just messing around.

i purchased a thermaltake bigwater 745 at fry's for 150$ yesterday and got it running with my conroe now. the waterblock is screwed on tight and sealed and im running 3.4ghz 1.38 vcore, 1.58 mch. orthos stable so far. im idling at around 35C in a 80 degree room, however when i run orthos i hit 54C instantly, which sounds extremely high however when i stop orthos the temp drops back down to 35C instantly, and i know thats not possible, so i think the abit uguru temps are incorrect.

edit: i also got a 40mm fan on the northbridge, huge difference, it runs way cool now, before it was too hot to touch. it allowed me to lower my mch voltage alot for the same fsb(1.58v 380fsb orthos stable). with ~1.7 mch and ~1.5 vcore i ran 3.8ghz. 4ghz hopefully soon. aw9d-max just cant hit 4ghz constantly yet with a 9x multi

Thanks for the update. I mounted the Sythe Infinity and am running at 3.6 ghz and stable at 1.5V. If i run Intel TAT it goes from 42 idle to 62 with 100% load on both cores. I am still pushing it further.

So how do youl ike the water kit? You might have to lap your CPU to get a better temp. It is supposed to rise gradually with water.

Why don't you install bios 1.2 and lower your multiplier? I run 8x425 (3.4GHz) with my E6600 (week 29). Vcore default, MCH 1.55V, Vdimm 1.9V and ram at 1:1. My Corsair PC6400C5 are running flawlessly at 4-4-4-12 @ 425.

No need for 3:4 when you can lower your multiplier!

Also, I get the same poor performance when I run 3:4 ratio. FPU memory bandwidth is 1/6 of what is normal. With 1:1 everything is normal.

i wanted to use my 9x multi, but i guess ill be dropping it down to 8 and cranking the fsb to see what i can get. 1.55 mch is great for 425 fsb. i can boot 1.55 but when i run orthos cpu & ram mixed i get a mis calculation within a minute. also 3.4 with a 1.325 vcore sounds , run orthos gormacs core and see if it can stand a little load.

anyone else have an answer to the sudden rise and fall in temps with water cooling?

My E6600 @9x380 3420 goes from idle 53/53 TAT 48 SF to a load of 62/62 TAT 66 SF using Orthos Blend. Jumps right up there and back down again. Never have seen any graduall climb in any water I've used. BTW the Corsair Nautilus 500 has bested any of the Thermaltakes water set ups from the Bigwater SE up to the 745. It even is within 2-3C's of 2 77 Bonny rads with 4 fans!! I have water on my NB but in Speed Fan it still shows 49-50c's same as before??

Just dl'd the 3dmark05 suite a couple minutes ago.

My 3dmark score is pathetic but what the hell, its a 7600gt... I hope my CPUmark is decent though since you didn't mention if your score was at the OC'd speed or stock.
    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=2252372
nvm, I found the FSB listing... I'm a total noob to the 3dmark stuff.

    Also 4:5 mem divider is working fine for me, my system is @ 320 x 9 w/ 1.325vcore in bios, prime stable for over 12 hours. Ram is Corsair 2x1GB DDR2 800 6400c4 w/ 4-4-4-12 timing @ 2.0v and 400mhz.

    Bios is version 12.
    CPU is week 25
