    Gigabyte DS-4 Overclocking

Finally got my motherboard and new setup, it’s working far from flawlessly though, and I know several others experience the same kind of problems. So I have seen several threads here at XS about overclocking the DS3 and think it’s about time to start a thread concerning the DS4.

For info about memory compatibility on DS3/DS4/DQ6 I recommend this thread:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=113794

And for the latest BIOS´es for DS3/DS4/DQ6 this thread:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=109719

Info about OC on DS3 this is the one to read, some settings and issues applicable to the DS4 is discussed.
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=110460

I have tried several BIOS now on the latest Beta F5b, the problem i have is that the system isn’t stable when booting at 400Mhz, occasionally it will work but if i shut it of and leave it for a while and then turn it on again its always "on for 3sec no picture an then of and on again and over and over" nothing else to do than CMOS. I have tried to turn legacy USB support of, disabling all throttling, PCIe lock @ 100Mhz, slack timings, high voltages, low voltages, but it simply keeps fu**ing up during boot. Its especially strange since the system can clock to the frequencies below with EasyTuner but the same voltages and settings is a no go even at 8x400

Nice overclock. But why do you run your vcore so high?Doesn't it get kind of hot that high.Or is that what you have to run with your setup?I don't know what to say about the NonBoot issue after you shut down. But keep working at it and you'll get it.Are you overclocking you video card like it says in your sig ?Maybe back that that off a little and also try a lower vcore if you can. That sounds kinda dumb saying to lower it.Usually it's the other way around lol.You have a nice setup there.Good Luck.

Here is what I run at.But haven't tested it in games yet.Just burn in tests,prime,3mark and Sandra. It hasn't failed any of those on an all day several hour runs.I can boot from 200fsb to 494fsb with everything set to normal except the vcore at 1.34volts.The ram at 1:1.I don't use the odd fsb settings.Only even ones. But you never know when one stupid glitch gets in there.

Temperature is is not a problem idles at about 20c and maxes at 34c I have to say that I am a bit worried about the high vCore to. Im gonna tear the temporary system apart after finishing this reply and mount all the stuff in to the case. Will try all your suggestions after that. Regarding tha GFX it was running @ stock clock at the time of the problems and aircooling but now its back with water and 450//1100 24-7.

    Thanx for the help

seems your memory is not compatible with DS4 update to F5 and try patriot mem! my patriot signature 6400 5-5-5-15 can do 935MHz 4-4-4-10 1.9v!! I set my DS4 E6300 + huge OC!

Cold boot is the problem, CPU wall... hmm hardly since it does 300+Mhz more stable if i OC with EasyTune. I reacted to the kind of high stock voltage of the cpu though 1,325v.

I have a feeling that it has to be something else... BIOS says DDR voltage faliure but I guess that cause I use them with 0,4+ overvoltage?!

yes even at +0.35 it shows fail but i'm running stable with dual prime and dual superpi32m... gonna try memtest when i have free time... i used to have that cold boot problem until f5c came out. but i'm sure i'm hitting cpu wall at 450fsb now or maybe my ram is having problem with overclocking? i'm running 450fsb w/ 1.33v and ram 900@2.15v 4-4-4-10 consider good with a value ram :P

why did u get the ds4?
the ds3 is best overclocking wize
but i would still go for P5B... people have reached 550fsb on it... and its same price as ds-3 (dunno about ds4s)

try running FSB 1:1(or lower), it puts less stres on the MC. helps with DFI infinity OCs a fair amount.

    just read around a bit.

I have been running 1:1 all the time.

Strangley enough I tried something yesterday, just set stock settings turned of some throtteling crap and then started to raise FSB without even touching the voltage. To my great suprise I got the same maximum cool boot OC (8x390) with all voltgae settings completley stock. So I set a 4:5 divider to the memory so now Im running 8x390 and mem @ 488 5-5-5-12 all on default voltage.

Does not this show that it cant be the memory stopping as I normaly go with a 1:1 divider and that the CPU hardly is maxed out if the voltage is not even touched?

EDIT: Now i have tried with total stock settings and the board does 6x450 and 7x450 with all voltages on stock. This gets stranger and stranger....
