    Merom - FSB bugged?

As title, can't get a definative answer...
Looking at a T7400 ES, seems they're bugged similary to Yonah's which is a shame. Cooling wise, have a reasonable SS.

    Cheers

Very much so, often worse than the Yonahs. I had one that topped around 263 on dry ice. Meroms are great for low power applications, but it really doesn't make any sense to take one over Conroe for serious overclocking.

Merom is great for laptops but for oc it is useless now because of FSB wall You will be lucky to get 220-300 which is a piece of cake for Conroe

Have the kit to run it, should be a cheaper upgrade over conroe... Kinda makes sense to get Conroe though as you said

has anyone ever figured out if the conroe indeed has higher vcca than the meroms?
that was one theory to its lower overclocks.
i still feel that the merom will one day rival the conroes for some records.
could be wrong but we'll never know till someone builds a merom adapter or a decent board for them.

my merom clocks to 3.25 @ 1.4v on air, about the same as my conroe, the difference is with my conroe and 1.5+, 3.7+ is possible, and the aopen has issues for 24/7 usage at 255fsb+

got this last night: 278 x 13 Validation under DICE

    With watercooling:

    r@h-stable: 230 x 13 @ AutoVcore

    SuperPi 1M: 250 x 13 @ 1,5 V

DICE gave me additional 25 MHz FSB compared to Water with my Merom...

Very impressive, stummerwinter. This was the best I was able to do with a T7200, actually is 3158MHz due to EIST, on DI. It's a WR (unofficial, no validation), but that should show how difficult these puppies generally are to OC...

I kinda wish I wouldnt have gotten this yonah

All I can get is 240FSB on air ....

On the other hand, it runs very cool and is a very strong chip for its speeds. Ill prolly end up keeping this yonah for a long time, and getting other hardware for overclocking fun :p

Actually, 240MHz is well above average with Yonahs on air, especially for 24/7 stability. A vast amount of them top out around 225MHz, if that's any consolation.

Tempted to risk one, deals good and should be able to break even if it needs selling on due to clocking crap..
Certainly cheaper than a full Conroe upgrade. Even at 3ghz it should be quicker than this Yonah is.

You have to find out the Vcca for Conroe. It's not documented AFAIK, all I know is that Vcca is pin A23.
...or just raise it to 1.7 V on Merom and see what happens! Dunno how though, maybe Hipro have a clue?
(Vcca for Merom and Yonah is 1.5 V, typically.)
