Another Kentsfield WR so close to 5GHz.. + 3d @4,75GHz
Well I'm letting my Kentsfield go, due to the expenses of my hobby... So, before i let it out of my hands.. I had to have another go at it...
Using my new Asus P5W DLX LN2 and a 7950 GFX.
Setup:
Kentsfield E6700 2,67GHz Quad
Asus P5W DH bios 801
G.Skill 8000GBHZ@ 3-3-3-4-2-A-D
OCZ Powerstream 600W sli
Club 3D Geforce 7950GX2@air with no mods
Mousepot copper
LN2
Here are pictures of the setup of the setup
I believed i messed up when I kinda lost focus on how much LN2 i poured in the container... But guess what... This board does 3D and more on a stunning -180 degrees C!!!! Scores are not that great due to low bus speed..
And then i started crancking it up...
And here is the new WR on Kentsfield E6700...http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=112167 I tried like ten times to get a valitation above 5GHz, and at 5,011GHz it did not reboot before i was about to save the link... but unfourtunately it was a nogo...
but.. this is allright too i guess..
Now.. on to conroe...@ -180 hopefully...
Thanks to all that have supplied me with timings and tips on this setup... there are many...
that's awesome oc even the 5 GHZ would have been sooo nice.
Any screenshot of the 5GHZ without valid? would be nice as well - I just wanna see 5 gig on a quad core
that would make 20 gig of crunching power in one system - simply insane
I also find your scores weird, both Cinebench and 3DMark (cpu score) are lower than expected (compare with coolaler's or mine).
I also got a P5WDH a few days ago, and I have the same problem: super high overclocking, but crappy benching power (I'm 200MHz higher than on my bad axe), I was thinking I missed somthing, but after seeing your scores, I think that the P5WDH is really slower than the BadAxe (clock for clock).
Gimme a few days, I'm coming after you
on a UNMODDED (actual vcore = 1.63v) P5WDH, with my cascade :

Go man... go... Thats it for me with the Kentsfield... it is changing hands.. I just cannot afford to keep it..Just to expensive.. Need to get myself another X6800 for some serious benching..Have a Crossfire master coming later on this week, so I guess it,s time for some 3D..
Great efforts Stoolman! Weird thing your scores in 3DM 06 and Cinebench seem low despite the clock speed. Is there any way to disable throttling on your MB? It may be part of the reason to the scores, but that's only my guess.

It's the motherboard.. without a doubt...
I was hoping for a clockgen or a version for setfsb that would support P5B Dlx, but it seems to take a while...
The way I see it, the extremely low temp is what allowed me to go this high. It the temp decreased to -150@4,8 the system would just shut down.
The scores are relatively poor, the platform considered. I also did optimizations towards 3d mark 06, ram tweaks, real time and relatively nice clocks on the 7950, air considered, but the cpu acts more like a slow x6800 than a potent quad core...
I hope p5B will be better.. or the WS board (getting one very shortly).
So to conclude: I am very satisfied with the clocks and extremely thrilled about a motherboard that lets me bench @-180 degrees C, but real dissatisfied about the scores and the P5W DH compability with Kentsfield.
I agree with you, I hope my P5B will be better than the WDH about the Kentsfield support, even if it's better than the BadAxe for overclocking, scores are poor, and max fsb remains under 333MHz on my rig
I vmodded mine, but it seems the motherboard died yesterday when I was pushing hard the clocks
