    P5W DH Deluxe Issues...

Well...first off all, after i exceed a certain FSB (around 330ish, don't know for sure...), when i select restart from the shut down menu, rather than doing it normally, it'll completely shut off, and then power back up in a few secs. The same thing happens when you save changes in the CMOS and restart. Even if i press the reset button, it'll do the same thing. What gives?

Also, I can't really get above 400 MHz on the FSB without it failing to POST....It also fails to post if vMCH is > 1.55v. I've tried both 0502 and 0602 BIOSes, but there's no difference apart from the fact 0502 doesn't allow me to adjust vCore.

And now, I can't get into windows at an FSB of 370 MHz wheras 386 x 7 is fully prime stable and 400 x 7 was prime stable until i stopped it after an hour.

Any suggestions are more than welcome

It's not the RAM....I've tested it via memtest and it happily does DDR1000 @ 4-4-4-8

Try loosening the PCI-E link parameters. I don't remember exactly what they are off the top of my head. (Not at home right now)

jesus dont tell me the DH is doing that too.

the -E Premium board had that same issue.
some one said it was an asus feature, feature my arse its frickin annoying and BAD for your hardware.
you cant reboot, re cant resart, you cant exit the bios, you can not restart from dos, you cant do anything the system shuts down and then about 3 seconds later restarts like nothing happened.

you cant tell me asus doesnt know whats going on.

also have u experience any vdroop?? cuz my Pentium D 920 at 3.78Ghz is experiencing taht a little bit. I set Vcore to like 1.4715 in BIOS and only getting about 1.44 during idle and 1.43 1.42 during full load dual prime 2004.... and MCH,FSB,ICH were left to auto, also there is no way to increase PCI X voltage?? should i just increase PCI X clock??

    00778 didn't help. Should i try 0504?

    I've already tried:

    0401
    0502
    0602
    0078

And this stupid reboot problem still occurs.

Can someone take a pic of their P5W DH and post it? I'll compare it to mine to see if any Caps are missing. AFAIK, the problem on the P5WD2 could be solved by adding a cap. Maybe my MoBo is an earlier revision or something

This is fairly normal behavior with 975X chipset. My guess is the board needs a few seconds to adjust to a new strap. Same thing will happen with Bad Axe board.

As far as the FSB problem, that could any one of a number of things. You need to increase MCH voltage if you want to get higher FSB.

So does anyone else have the same issue with this board then or is it just me? Because one of my mates with the same board reports no such problem

My board does it too. It's just something I've learned to live with. I mentioned the temporary shutdown thing in another thread that's since been buried out of sight.

If you're not overclocking or making a lot of BIOS changes, you will probably never experience this.

You know, I'm getting it too but not all the time. Sometimes, like you said, it shuts off for few secs then powers back on. Other times it performs a normal reboot.

This thread makes me concerned b/c I ordered one of these P5W DH from newegg.

Seems though from the SPI scores that this one outperforms the bad axe...

so with X6800 retail and P5W DH will CPU multiplier be unlocked???

this way there is no reason to push the FSB so hard to create problems

    can anyone confirm for sure?

Webwilli brought this up a few weeks ago, plus a fix.

You are more likely to experience the temporary shutdown when you're pushing the system to the limits. And as I mentioned, the Bad Axe does this too.

All of this has been discussed before here at XS. People need to use the search function.
