E6600ES temps on air? too high?

Hi there, my lovely E6600ES arrived yesterday and I was messing around a bit with it. I'm using a Scythe Ninja to cool the cpu. At standard voltage it's already at 50° in BIOS and goes up to 60° when primed. Roomtemp is ~25-26°. Can anyone else tell me his temps? (in case you don't know which tool: everest home -> computer -> sensors)

I would recommend not using more than 1.6v with air cooling. 1.5-1.55v is probably better. The BIOS temp readings on some of these boards are nowhere close to being accurate. On the Bad Axe, the BIOS temp may say 60C, when it's actually closer to 30C when measured with a probe.

50C with stock voltage sounds way too high. You should be idling in the 30's.

Well that's what scares me, but if you're confirming that the bad axe is reading too high, I'm fine.

I had an application that i picked up from the Yonah thread that read the core temp direct from the CPU, this was much more accurate than the motherboard. It does not seem to work with the Asus p5W DH and an 805... might work with Conroe. http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com...opic.php?t=137

Give it a try. and see if it works...may give a better indication of temp!

Have you tried using the Intel Utilities Program? It's on the motherboard CD. It's a little accurate than the BIOS as far as reading temps.

Are you 100% sure that you have good HS contact. Might be worth taking off, cleaning and reseating?

A friend has the Bad Axe. He used a thermal probe to determine the truth. BIOS read 60C. Utilities program read 45C. Probe read 30-35C.

I also had a Bad Axe. Temps in BIOS were always very high. I just ignored them.

I already took off the cooler and lapped the IHS, but it was already flat. I tried the programm Core Temp, but it also gave me results as high as 60°C. I found a thread here where many people got problems with the BIOS readings. But what about "Core Temp", did it also gave such results for you? I don't feel comfortable about ignoring these temps since I don't know exactly they're misread.

sai i'll let ya know a bit later just doing a prelim memtest before i let it boot into windows since i'm testing a new pair of ram too heh

If you have a probe, you should test and see what results you get. My friend was getting high readings in the BIOS and decided to check for himself.

Ain't that Northbridge and Southbridge temps? BTW do I need to disable speedstep in windows or will it work when I just switch it off in BIOS. I'm asking because FCG made this Speedstep disabling tutorial?

    E6600 QPGE Step 5/B1 / Intel D975XBX Badaxe rev304 temperatures

Well here's some temperature readings but not sure which is right. Most badaxes owners say bios temps are +10C higher than reality.

    @9x266fsb = 2400mhz stock vcore 1.242v

Room temp = 24.8C right now
    Bios cpu temp = 30-31C

Windows Idle = 27C/25C for core#1/core#2 most of the time but fluctuates by +3C for both cores at times.

Windows Load (dual stressprime) = 37C/37C for core#1/core#2

    Will do oc'd temps later

    Any more input guys?

Hm so what to do now? Just ignore that and keep below 1.5v? i'm sure it'll go up to 70° with 1.5v and decent oc, well shouldn't be harmful anyway considering the tcasemax of 85° ?
