    P5B deluxe or P5W DH?

    Hello XS,
Long time reader, relatively new poster.

As many others, I plan on buying Conroe in about a month or so.

I have most of the system figured out, and the plan is to buy a E6600 and a 7900GT.

But! With all the new motherboards out, I am a little unsure which motherboard i should buy.
Right now I have narrowed it down to these three boards:
    P5B (non-deluxe) (215$)
    P5B Deluxe (293$)
    P5W DH (276$)

I plan to do some silent air, perhaps Tower120(how noisy is it?) or Scyche Ninja+.
One of the things that I wonder most about is whether motherboard FSB wall will mean anything to me with this relatively lousy cooling.
I do not have an urgent need for WiFi+Accesspoint, but I could use it(it can be used as a wireless swich/router, right? So i can have my laptop on wireless). The remote sure is handy, and I think I will use it a bit.

Also: I think I'll buy a Antec P150 case with an Antec 430W PSU. This has a 4-pin powerplug, so I wouldn't take advantage of a motherboard with 8-pin powerplug.

I think I'll go with eigher P5B Deluxe or P5W DH, but which I wont run Crossfire, but maybe SLi someday(I know it's not supported officially, but I think the hacked drivers with support for 7900 will be out when/if I upgrade(not for the next 6-12 month))

I hope you don't think, "Oh no, another "want-to-buy-conroe" noob asking questions". I have done a bit of research on this, but can't quite deside.

Thanks in advance XS - you are the greatest

I think you may also consider that graphic card such Nvidia 7950 GX2 is like Sli ( 2 x 7900 GT ) for less pricing and consuming , and could take place with the P5W DH without sli support .

And without hacked drivers needed ^_^

I'd go for the P5W DH since it's just a little better, not much, but it has a 975x chipset and 2x pci-e-1x instead of 1x, and it's cheaper.
That the biggest difference between the board I guess

    Unfortunately, 7950 GX2 is quite expensive(796$ vs 353$ for 7900GT).
I dont think I can find the extra money for this.

Besides, if DirectX 10 makes a major breakthrough, i might buy a Singlecard dx10 in about a year or so.

One thing i forgot to mention: I have a 930BF flatscreen, so maximum resolution is 1280*1024.

Hmm, think I will take the P5W DH deluxe then.. It's a bit pricey, but what the heck, I'll get a kick-ass computer..

Besides, the remote is quite great i think. Right now I have a Logitech UltraX keyboard, without any media-buttons(no way I'm changing keyboard^^), so it'll do great on my desk

Also, wireless would be great with my laptop
    (sofa+remote+wireless laptop )

Another question: 4 phase power vs. 8 phase power - Will I be able to see any real differences, or is it simply just for braggin'?

Last: I know it's not the right forum, but is the Tower120 silent? It should be the best, but I really hate computer-noise.

    Thanks guys..

If i had to choose between the two, i'd choose the p5w dh. Firstly because 975 is enthusiast and 965 is mainstream and secondly, the p5w has more goodies than the p5b, with the price beeing (strangely) similar.

Maybe the price is higher because the 965 chipset is a new appearance and 975 is not.

I been hearing that the P5W DH is going to be more expensive than the 965x chipsets. But in the end if you think you're going to be buying dual graphics then go for the 975x, if not i would go for the P5B Deluxe.

For cooling the best quiet cooling is either the Scyche Ninja+ (maybe even passive cooling with good air flow), or the Thermalright Ultra 120 with just a Nexus 120mm on it would also be very quiet. The Tuniq Tower 120 cools great, but doesn't do as well when the airflow slows down.

Lastly, i would go with the 7900GT or lower and then get a DX10 card later this fall ...

I wouldn't consider a Ninja + unless I wanted passive cooling. Scythe's Mine III is a better solution for active cooling. (better mount and better fan arrangement).

Replace it's stock 100mm fan with a 120mm Yate Loon.

I have Scythe Ninja + waiting on my desk and P5W DH on the road
I'm hoping that it will fit to that board and in my Super Lanboy case, it might not neea fan at all in that case cos rear 120x120mm fan is pretty close.
It might be pain to install in such a small case.

Is there a reason that one of the SATA connectors is missing .. or is this just a shot of an ES board ?

I've got a Scythe Ninja brand new right here too. I'm wondering if it will work well with the P5W DH. Let me know your results...

Since P5W DH is based on 975 and ICH7 it's more mature technology. Both Asus experience with the platform and Intel being well down the learning curve wrt manufacturing and silicon health.

I don't know anything important that get's sacrificed by going the 975/ICH7 route over the 965/ICH8 route given that they're within a few bucks of each other.
