First Results: BiostarT TForce 500, A64 3500 Orleans, Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4

This is my first overclocking experience. This is the highest clock I can boot. Voltage is high at 1.7. Also right now the HTT is running at 3x264...for some reason I can't change the CPU Multi...whatever I set it to, it just defaults to the stock (though the bios shows mine). I want to run 9x322 for this speed that way I could get a better HTT. I'll add some hardware pics tomorrow after work and work on some better results. Also thanks to all who helped me decide on hardware.

1.7V!? Would you like to burn CPU or what? If you're on air you should immediately lower volts

2.9 is pretty good, nicely done.

But does that 3500 really need 1.7v (what you set in BIOS is real) for a 1m SuperPi? What are your 24/7 clocks on this one?

You should really be able to lower the multi, if you cant you need to flash to a diff BIOS. You need this lower multi not for high HT bus but for your memory clocks.

edit: Igor0203 thats more than likely just for benching 1m there.

Well the monitor said 36c under load so I figured I was safe

Well for some reason I had reached the conclusion that it wouldn't even boot under 1.7v but I think that was my sloppy notes because just now I switched to 1.6v and no problem 1m even did the same.

Yeah the lower clock would help with the memory too...really noob question: what's a 24/7 clock?

Oh, and I don't think biostar has any other bioses available for this board.

well i'd say it's a decent OC you got there at 2.9G but i got a question , how come you get 31S only on superP at that clock ?? isn't too a bit too slow at that clock ?? is it because it's a dual core maybe ??

its not a dual core, that's actually an error on CPUZ's fault, and I don't believe 31 is slow for that clock, I think to get below 30 you have to break the 3 Ghz mark.

Thats a pretty nice overclock there. I'm trying to tweak my x2 4000+ Windsor with that same motherboard. Right now, it maxes out at 2.75 ghz with 275x3, however the idle temps are still low (below 25-30 C). Somehow, whenever I push the frequency past 280, the reboot reverts my processor's speed back to 2.01 ghz. You seem to have nice results with the Biostar Tforce 550, so could you please help me with my issue here? Thanks

31sec @ 2,7ghz is no problem at all!

nice results. i like those biostar board. have the nf4ultra version and its clocking very good.

I get 27s at 3GHz with my 165, I've seen other people's pi results that looked slow as well. seems AM2 is a bit slower than 939 on pi.. first thing you might wanna do is set a bigger up-divider, 322 is kind of slow for DDR2

i can get 31s below 2.7... lower multis/high fsb help alot. i also used a 2gb kit, but my chip is a s939, ddr2 has really high latencies and that probably hurts your score. if you had 1gb of ddr, you wouldve broke 30s at 2.9

if he had better ram running 500+ 4-4-4 instead of 322mhz it would be a good time

that's what im sayin .. 31s is definatly slow for almost 3G's... i myself get 34 for 2.5Gh/z on a venice...that's why i thought there was somethin wrong with your P results and then wondered if you're using a dual core...

anyway, as said before, it's maybe your timings but 31 is still slow IMO. for nearly 3Gh/z.. i actually beleive you got somethin wrong in your hardware or tweaking that bottleneck you OC performance... good luck in tweakin !

Yeah, I'm currently talking to Biostar support about the CPU multiplier issue beacuse its really holding me back...it looks like I'm headed for an RMA though.

If that gets taken care of them I can put the memory where it should be...the RAM is supposed to be good OC and it irks me that that potential is going to waste. And Thunder I think it is different for DDR2 memory as cky2k6 pointed out.
