doesent work as well as the drop of TIm on the center, which is the method ArticSilver have in their instructions.

take some saran wrap and stretch it across your index finger so it is nice and tight. then place a small amount of as5 on your covered finger. then, apply it to the core. this allows for an unmessy way to apply it. works great for me every time.

I just put a small dab in the center, then let the HS sit. Yes you waste very little amount of paste but you get less air bubbles, same way you would apply a microscope slide. Or just use ceramique

put a drop in the middle by spreading it you risk trapping air in the middle and if you're worried about shorting then put non-conductive paint [non-lead-base] around the core

beat me to the air thing by 1 second, damn you slow typing and dial-up

use ceramique instead. Just run a very thin line of ceramiue down the middle of the core. Remember the core is not square like the IHS. If you only use a dot in the middle, it will have lots of spill over.
