    Abit Kv8 Max just arrived

    Some interesting stuff ..

    here it is :-

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/abit1.jpg

The Zalman fits on, I was not sure ..

my obscure CAAMC coded AMD64 :-

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/abit2.jpg

I just hope that is not a duff CAAK that did not make the grade

    This is interesting

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/abit3.jpg

    This is more interesting

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/abit4.jpg

    300 max FSB
It talks about setting the multiplier and even higher multiple ( and I assume it does not mean engineering sample or P4 )
AGP:PCI:CPU lock .. but the way it mentions it seems to mean you can preset 1:3:6 or maybe 1:4:8 ..who knows I aint booted it up yet

It also mentions the RAM needed is ECC so either I am going to be stuck or the manual is wrong ( more than likely wrong ..well I hope it is ).

At this point i would like to say I am about to boot it up, stay tuned, but I have been told by my wife I have to give my toddler a bath because that takes priority.

    Looks like a winner board

And having AGP/PCI settings in the BIOS means that you wont hit the silly ~260FSB limit that some mobos have..

can you check which Clockgenerator does it have?

i've been waiting for news on these adjustable boards. the ecc in brackets most likely means optional. i'm fairly sure it's not a requirement. looking foreward to more good news.

    This is from the chip

    ICS

    CA330219A
    0321
    950403CF

    Good or bad ?

I'll set it up now and get into the BIOS to see what the ranges are for voltages. I suppose that after that I will see if they actually work for mutlipliers and stuff before checking out guru ranges .. no good if they aer like max +0.1v

thats the one they use on MSI.

You can use clockgen (for multi or FSB) with that chip so yes its good

But hurry up and set it up already

    Thanks for info

Good I'm glad this is proving useful. I will be using air and a GF4 for the moment so this is not a " how I rose to the top of the ORB with the help of Abit type thread " more a " here's the info so everyone can make their own mind up" type thread.

My wife has decided now that she needs to write her school reports up on my main machine and write them to CD ( she wanted to send them by email but as they are 280MB I decided this was not a good idea ). She is hogging my monitor and KVM switch . Imagine what it feels like trying to sit here next to her and not be impatient ...

While I while away the time any more requests ? Two other things of note

    1) The mosfets are in that plastic wind tunnel thing but have no sinks on them ... I would have prefered sinks and no tunnel as I would use a good case fan or have it bare on top of the box as it is now

    2) The Zalman heatink is the easiest heatsink I have ever fitted ..why can't they all be like this? Two screws ..bang, it is in. I woul say though that the only reason AMD have put heatspreaders on their chips is because Artic Silver wanted their profits to go up. I've had to put far more on this heatspreader than on a nude chip ..it's the size of a football pitch. Is it really worthwhile considering the gunk they put between the heatsink and chip. I can imagine the Zalman with a 80cfm Delta on the top is pretty good for air, .lots of surface area, the bottom finish puts a Thermalright 900U to shame.

My wife has now walked out of the room with her stuff still on the screen. There is going to be an arguement soon.

    Back shortly

    Regards

Hello guys... been testing this motherboard here at Malaysia. The results are quite impressive... but the problem I'm facing now is... every time I try to go more then 227FSB on that mobo... even with relax timings on the RAM it just won't boot. What seems to be the problem here??? The Vdimm use at 227FSB are 2.8v and the Vcore are at 1.5V but the BIOS reads it at 1.55V. What else it there to be tweak? I'm kind of n00b at these AMD64 setup

The spec on my testing rig...
AMD64 3200+ of course with stock HSF at room temps at 25C
    KV8 MAX3

    Teratec Auron 7.1
    430Watt Antec True Power

at 227 the AGP are at 72MHz and the PCI is at 36 IIRC... the max vcore at that mobo are at 1.8V and the Vdimm maximum voltage available are 3.2V... the rig currently are not at my home here. It's at another place right now... with some nice room temp . Yeah Henry nice to meet you as well. So any idea what seems to be the problem here??

Maybee 72 Mhz is to high for your VGA ? Can you adjust the FSB/AGP?PCI ratio to keep AGP clock below 70 ? I dont now the divider coz i dont have this mobo (soon, maybee ). Or maybee 2.27 Ghz is your cpu max clock with stock cooling and 1.55v ?

So what are the available voltages for this board?

Macci-How do you use Clock Gen on these A64 boards?
I have a K8V, and multiplier control and FSB would be really helpful.

    Unhappy

Well hopefully is either one of the problems you mention there... sigh... but it seems Major Slaughter manage to get his Raddy to run at those AGP speed, but as I know he is using vaporchill to cool his chip up... so I’m not so sure what seems to be the problem here... but ONE thing for sure... once I set the 233 FSB on the BIOS the divider automatically change to 7/1... So basically there are some issues here...(this is just my assumptions...)

    1. The RAM has reach a brick wall at the FSB...(I even pump 2.9V Vdimm on it erm do i need more???...)
    2. The Graphic card is giving the problem...
    3. Not enuff Vcore??? I even set it to 1.55V at BIOS and the PC Health Monitor shows 1.65V...

    I'm lost...

You can tell by the delay I'm having a few problems

Turned it on. nb fan and cpu fan do not turn , LCd numebr says 00 then 83 then 03 and then police siren like my old nforce2 Supsect the Corsair memory as it mentioned ECC and some problems before with SPD with lower than PC3500 but this is XMS 3500.

Typically the notherboard manual does not have the LCd code

Rseated everything. Turns out , to cut a long story short, that it does not like the normal pin ATX power connector in and the 4 pin one ! Do not know if this is generic or my board has a problem ..if the latter then need to see how it performs with overclocking as I do not think i should be using just the normal if the 4 pin is provided as well ..ie like Canterwood ..any thoughts?

Anyhow after a splash screen with about 15 Abit logos I am in the BIOS. Pictures soon on pages
    .

    Regards

    Andy

PS I changed my Antec treu control voltages down just in case because I thought 12.v might b too much, now I cannot get them off 11.74v as I wore away the bloody thread ! Sigh.

Finally got a 21 on the LCD and we are away

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/abit16.jpg

Here's the BIOS splash screens ..memory

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/abit10.jpg

    Hypertransport

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/abit11.jpg

I have no idea if 1.4v woould be better than 1.2v !

    CPu voltages

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/abit12.jpg

350volts maximum ..surely enough ! LOL How do you read that ?

    Multipliers

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/abit13.jpg

Er. mine stuck at 10, does not accept any other value

I tried F8 overclocking on the fly and nothing seemed to change

This is what it picked my Corsair XMS 3500 as

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/abit14.jpg

    seems pretty standard

    Voltages

    http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/abit15.jpg

Note the 12v and 3.3v are low as I screwed the Antec truecontrol up in my haste to get the board running, the only one that is Ok is the 5v line as I didn't wear the thread off the screw on that one !

So in summary, apart from the multipliers not working for me and my question mark over my particular board not allowing both Atx and Atx 12V1 4 pin lines into the board it seems to be pretty good.

I'll finish this botle of wine now that I started when the police sirens were going off

    Regards

    Andy

good news ..though why they put it on an AMD board though thus becomes a very puzzling thing .
