hardware mod to solve apic problems with high fsbs

    lanparty nf2 ultra b

finaly i find a way to solve this problem(mouse, lan, craches with apic on),theres is a voltage on ec42(1.6v),you need to remove r151 and replace it with a resistor 33k(set to 1.72v),this components are near southbridge.
    lanparty nf2 ultra b

    http://homecanibal.no.sapo.pt/southbridgemod.jpg

higher value of resistor gives more voltage.

    good luck

without mod my pc freezes and drop lans mouse even sometimes at 240fsb,with mod, rock stable at 250fsb.

be carefull with this mod,im not responsable if you damage your hardware.

This may affect other NForce2 boards, most of the design is "reference" design from NVidia. Nice find. More study is called for.

    Nice one, PORTUGAL

But my limits are also the APIC unit of the cpu I cannot get into windows over 260MHz with my locked 2500+. I have to use 8rdavcore to up it to 261 or 262 but it locks up after a while due to apic With my 1700+ i could get into windows at 262 sometimes... (263 real).

Do you think the mod helps to get those 263 at least?

And what does it do exactly? (I understood it ups a voltage, but which?)

this mod increase the voltage vdd,not to northbridge but to southbridge, the only way to find if solve your problem or not is making the mod and testing.
but the apic problem is on the cpu or nortbridge?

but the mod not solved to me all the problems, only certains.
other thing is when i put vio line lower get me more stability,i dont understand why,at 248fsb stable for much hours if vio is less than 3.40v,if 3.65v pc craches in less tan 1 minute.theres some component on the board that doesnt like vio.

    Yeah. SB vdd

Maybe I try it Will see if I can get my board working... gaming and such without it, if not, then I'll mod

The VIO thing seems familiar to me. I first had the vio at 3,7V (atx plug) and 3,5V in bios. That kicked me out of 3dmark relativley quick... I dropped my vio to about 3.32-3.34V bios and everything seems to run better. You have to play a bit, but seems this voltage is only for vagp though...

PORTUGAL, can you tell me if upping the 12V line will gain me anything in ocing (I had the mod on my rmaed TC550, but been too lazy to mod this one too, only 5V + 3.3V), cause I dunno if it's used for anything special on the board... with my old one I had 12V at 12.99V. The new one has 12.48V stock...

Sorry for crapping the thread. I must apologize. Just curious.

    Nice!

Now to find an easier way of doing this mod? Soldering to those SMD's is a pain

Which side is ground? left side (battery) or right side (mosfet) in your pic?

    Yeah. TY PORTUGAL

I already posted at AMDMB I just found out (DMM) what the right solder pad was.

With my pot at 35.6k I have a SB voltage of 1.75V

    hmmm

Like I said, we need to see if this impacts other NForce2 boards. I have chips that look like this area on the NF7 and A7N8X's.

I wonder if this is what that second mosfet on some NF7's controls?

    hmmm

Upon a close look, nothing looking like this is on either NF7-S's.... I have 3 here, 2 "OLD" and one "NEW". But the A7N8Xdeluxe has a nearly IDENTICAL circuit on it, near the Sil3112 chip. Maybe Abit did the SB Vdd differently, or just ran it off the NB Vdd..... but the DFI/Asus look to be doing it the same for SB Vdd.

Ill have to toss a 50K pot in this on the DFI and see....set to 33K to start.

    hmmm

    Any further info on this?

Im having sound dropouts on LPuB, wondering if raising the SB Vdd will sort that out.

Turns out I guess that Vdd on NF7-S controls both NB and SB so there is no second point to be adjusted. Thats why its a more acute issue of SB cooling on NF7-S boards when you raise the Vdd... hits SB too.

SB vdd did nothing to me, I 've been up to 1.82V...

So what to do for sound/lan dropouts....anything? Use PCI cards instead?

Maybe if Wildcard or someone can send me the 505-121T6 I will find improvement?

I just don't use sound LOL

No. Seriously. I did not bother as I was only benching the whole last two weeks. When I have time to game some I'll see what bios is best. That's the way I do it. Plus trying to get the right bios settings, drivers etc...

I'll send you the package with all 3 T6 packages if you like. I take it you know what ya do ?!?

PM me email address, please. (1.5MB free space)

anyone tried raising AGP voltage to see if that helps, per chance?

SAE - Can I get the 5-5-131-T6 version? stevil at xtremesystems.org
