    OCZ DDR Booster for A64's?

I just got mine in the mail and sadly my OCZ PC3500 EB just won't do anything in slots 2 and 3. So I've thought about modding it, but what could I do to make it fit in slot 3 while have the other two slots full? If you know some mod(s) to do to make that work, by all means let me know.

Anyway, what I was wondering, and this question is mainly aimed at Bigtoe or Ryan, when could I expect an A64 version of the Booster? And by any chance, would there be a trade in or rebate program for those who already own the standard booster? Thanks. It's a great product, I just wish I could use it. :P

The knob sticks out even more than the power connectors and that doesn't move. :/ Any other ideas?

Thanks for the tip btw Stevil.

EnJoY, I have the same problem. In my case, though, the power connector and the MOSFET heatsinks stick out too far. I just wish I could run two sticks well in slots 2 and 3.

The unit itself works fine. Just need to either find a safe way to mod it so it will fit in slot 3 with memory in slots 1 and 2, or have someone inform me if/when an A64 version of the booster is arriving.

    Thanks for the responses.

Lol, well yea, because then it fits in slot 3 fine and I can put the single ram module in slot 1. But I don't want to do that, I want to be able to run both sticks in slot 1 and 2 and the booster in slot 3. But that requires modding... So I wanted to know the extent of the modding neccesary and whether or not ocz was already working on one?

Looks like Jason took the liberty for me and made a thread on their suggestion box. I hope bigtoe or one of them reads it.

    Here's the thread: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...threadid=40554

In the mean time, would it be possible to unsink to mosfets, turn around the power connectors and then somehow rearrange the adjustment knob all safely so that the standard booster could fit in slot 3 with ram in slots 1 and 2?

    Hmm...

Mine came without sinks (sample) so I had to cut some and apply them. I made smaller ones and rearranged them so they would fit. I assume you could juts carefully pry them off and cut them a bit. Be carefull though because themofsets are on little springy legs and might full off.

Yea I noticed that when I pulled them off, nearly bent one of the mosfets. Luckily it was ok... But yea, removing the sinks completely or adding smaller ones gets rid of one of the obstacles. I think the biggest issue is the adjustment knob. The power connectors can be turned around with ease.

Can you post some pic's what you have done? Yes, I posted as soon as I read this thread... I can 't believe that they would not see the importance of this... OCZ might be feeling out the market with the first revision... How close are your dimm slots? On the Neo plat 2 & 3 are about as close as possible... I don't think removing the sinks will help... I plan on mounting the booster in the case(a combo of double sided foam tape and silicon) Maybe liqiud black tape on the dimm contacts to prevent accidental shorting..

This just a thought, and better ideas on how to mount in the case safely.. I haven't even had a chance to test booster to see if it will work properly like this, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't ....

Mine are just as close as yours, I think all A64 boards are the same in that sense. I think removing the sinks, turning around the power connectors, and re-configuring the adjustment knob may allow it to fit...those mosfets are low enough to clear the ram in the next slot I think.

I may try this over the weekend...maybe... :P I don't really wanna kill my booster.

This issue does kinda scare me off from getting the booster myself.. but it is ok if you use the booster in slot 3 (K8N Pro) and just run 1 stick in slot 1 correct??

Yes, but most people by two sticks nowadays...so it sucks for those who have two sticks and still want the booster.

I wonder why Bigtoe or Ryan have yet to respond in this thread...

I was on OCZ forums and someone suggested this:

    http://www.mycableshop.com/sku/DDRDI....htm?x=16&y=22

Kind of spendy, but will it work? I believe it would cure the space issue...

I wouldn't think this would effect the memory performance since the memory itself is still directly placed in the dimm slots.... It might even help keep the vdimm even cleaner?

Anyone know there return policy? I would be willing to risk it, and if doesn't turn out then just return it..maybe less 15% probably..?

That's an incredibly expensive solution. It might work, but I think I'll wait for what OCZ has to say about compatibility with 2 dimms in an A64 board.
