    Playing with P4PE

I will be posting P4PE stuff this weekend.

    The models are kinda confusing

P4PE /BGL is Broadcom Gigabit Lan version

If raid is listed, it has the promise SATA chip

If it lists sound, it has the Soundmax chip on it

Yay for IDE off the side of the board like I suggested on the Abit thread.

Tonight will be setting it up and all weekend benching. I have a grip of R9700's to go thru too.

Sorry about the lack 2.5A stuff, still waiting on good news before I buy another P4T533. -C might be an option, but got my hands full currently.

I really hate to move the IT7 out again, the damn thing owns hardcore for stability.

The P4PE is a worthy sucessor to the IT7, more features, newer chipset.

Nice overclocking features. It has already beaten the IT7's capabilities and still digging for more.

Now riding at a nice 3.4Ghz cruising speed.

I am getting more memory bandwidth from this mobo than the IT using the same stick of ram.

More clock adjustment for memory in BIOS is also a plus.

Benchmarks coming up, here is a PCMark2002 I did at 3.2Ghz testing the waters.

The P4PE overvolts with default voltage. Rides around 1.56v steady.

Its nice to have correct temps and even nicer to have 1Mhz adjustments to the AGP/PCI.

So far very stable at high speeds

It has a HIP6302, but I do not think voltage mod is needed.

it appears AGP voltage also adjustable in bios.

bummer the mem only goes to 1.9v in this bios rev

    Nice overclock
What cooling were you using to get to 3.4Ghz?
And i assume thats a typo where you say the P4PE has max dimm voltage of 1.9V 2.9V is the correct figure ill assume?
    Thnx

I'm playing around with one too.

Well, at ddr400 i get something like 3080 in sandra, at 2.5,3,3 .. wich is amazing.
JC .. we have the 266, 333, and 400 option in the bios for the memory.

The board has some great options in the bios, and it has the 1.85vcore open, so no need for the vpin mod.

Didn't play much yet, but i'm liking it.

    More feedback later.

Well I would like to know how much it actually reaches async.
    I need 235-240 MHz at 3:4 ratio...

It can gice you that speed. The ddr400 option i mentioned is like the 3:4 option the it7 has.

Coming down in temp today for some serious benching, here is a quick sandra memory bench.

    240 2-5-2-2 Turbo enabled iirc

I am getting the stability I require to make a sucessfull move from the IT7. I am also running at a higher cruising speed.

    Seems a bit low for 240, 2-5-2-2.
you should reach 3700 at least, at that speed. Check the memory settings again and post a screenie of the full memory bechmark, so we can see what settings you used.

Was thinking of getting the ABIT BE7, but after the bad comments over @ ocUK forums I ruled the BE7 out. Maybe I'll get this one, since the EPoX one won't be here for a few weeks...

XP scores higher than 2k. He appears to be running 2k. Thus, the loss in SiSandra benches, likely.

After playing with the BIOS, I think the fastest memory option is broken and skips back down after what seems to be 130'ish.

I was able to post up to what is supposed to be 453Mhz on the memory, this is what sandra says.

Another thing that is whacked is if you disable the midi/joystick port the system will not boot. Someone else who owns one please confirm this.

I will kick it around some more and see what pops.

I have the joystick/midi port disabled without any problems.

My latest findings, i can run at ddr435 (218mhz) at 2.2.2.5 with the turbo mode enabled at 2.9v ... at ddr440 i have to change it to 2.5 or i cannot enter into windows. I was trying the 1st dimm slot .. but the 2nd one gives me more stability and i can push the memory further.

The only prblem here is my cpu is my botleneck .. 165fsb at 1.85v, 166 is a no go.

But at 163 mhz i can run the memory with the more agressive timings then with my it7, and the scores are better in sandra and in superpi at the same speed.

    Hi,

I got this board this weekend, I got a wire-tricked P4 2.26, it defaults to 1.90v in the BIOS
but I'm unable to drop the voltage :/

chosing auto/manual vcore settings don't change a thing, I can only select 1.85v

is this a bug ? is there an extra jumper somewhere? I couldn't find any info on this in the manual either :/

    damn :/
    would 1.9v be too much?

what's the best way to remove the "wire-trick"
cause it's painted on with silver paint

try some thinner or aceton maybe... that stuff gets everything off
then use a needle to scratch it away....
