the ati tool temp monitor is "recording" your core and envoirment temps, and shows you lowest-highest and avarage

Quite some difference between cards and temps on stock HSF it seems. Mine idles at about 45 degrees (stock volts/bios, amb 20 degrees, 40% fanspeed). Highest temp atitool reports while gaming for hours or looping 3D is 65 degrees. Fan is set to run @ 60% above 60 degrees. It wil do 700/800 on stock volts and bios without a problem. I did not remount the hsf but this might be a good idea for the "hot" cards.

Hmmm...this is very interesting with the Memory clocks...might have to try this out and see what I can get out of it.

hmmm weird, never heard of this till now and I thought I was actively following all these threads. Strange how ATI would set the voltage higher than needed. The only thing I can think of is the core intelligently adjusts for voltage under load but perhaps the ram doesn't so they gave it a little extra bit just to be sure it would be stable under load or an average overclock.

Give this a try eva and let us know how it goes. If that is the case I will lower mine as I don't plan on going over 792 anyways until I get better cooling/lower temps. I hope a slight drop in voltage will lower pcb/ambient temps some on the card.

BTW, I emailed Arctic Cooling last night about an aftermarket cooler for the X1800XT and they said they have one in design now and should be out in the next 2 months. It does cool better than stock apparently. I hope so! Cooler temps and quieter fan is #1 on my list. I would buy this new cooler asap. If I could even keep temps at 75c full load with much quieter fan I would be happy.

ALWAYS downclock your X1800 video card before you flash to at least 500/500 to prevent corruption and failed bios flash.

Those are amazing clocks maxxpt, but system mem bandiwth is holding you back there. SHould be getting at least 11500 with those clocks. Is that with a divider or 1:1 on your fx?

If so what are your volt readings with stock and XTPE bios?
Im at 1,3V in 2D and 1,4 with stock and 1,48 XTPE in 3D mode.
And what would be the max safe voltage?

There's been "a few" problems with these mobos around the world This is my second one, 1st one wasn't even stable on stock clocks.

Maybe I have to start looking for other mobos... kind of liked DFIs until I got my hands on these RDX200.

I decided to be stupid tonight and flash my XL with an XT bios. I did not use the PE bios floating in this thread. Here were the not so good results.

Upon reboot the screen went black - nothing. I ended up turning the system completely off and rebooting. That worked - system booted into windows and it began displaying that it found new hardware. It did not find acceptable drivers and prompted me for them. I selected to let it find them - it did not. I then re-installed the 5.12 drivers - no luck. Loading ATItool confirmed the bios was different - clocks were now at 600/700 except ATItool did not recognize the card. So, I could not check the voltages. Windows was still using the base VGA driver so things were a little clunky. I did not do any benching because of this.

Under the control panel/system/hardware it showed unkown ? hardware.

I reloaded the bios flashing tool - it said I had an ATI 520 installed. I forced a reflash to my saved XL bios. That worked and a reboot put me back to normal. A little risky - but worth the try.

At least I am back to normal. Not sure what I was thinking. I would have tried to XT PE bios in this thread, but I know the card can't touch 800 mem with those stock volts.

Thanks for trying. Took a lot of balls to do what you did. I know I would have freaked out getting a black screen after a flash. I am glad you got it all working again though.

did you use atitool or overclock, to underclock. as overclock won't work for everyone.

Flashed sapphire to PE, done 3dmark05 at 9451 at 760/800 my CPU is holding me back though.
2400mhz sigh.

Seems stable though but me on watercooling mcw50 and temp now is 41c, and goes to around 52 or so when benching.
