well this is an interestig twist, i can be memtest stable up to 257mhz... but in order to get anywhere in prime95, i have to drop cmd to 2T (this is on my clawhammer)

i should have a screen for you in.. roughly 20 min.

edit for screen... off to do some more testing with 2T to see if i can break 260mhz
for those of you who question the high time.. clawhammer is at 2.25ghz

edit2: this is still with 2.8v, sorry for not including a smartgaurdian shot too, doesn't work in xp-64

A bit off Topic but nontheless X2 or FX?

I have the option to go with X2 or FX now that my clawhammer FX-55 is sold, I can do San Diego FX-55 ($818 retail box) or go with the X2 4800+ obviously would cost me 200-250$ more, or for the same price the X2 4600+ has 512k+512k cache but runs at 2.4ghz.

I know it is practically a guarantee that the San Diego FX-55 will do 2.8 ghz or even close to 3ghz and right now is the "fastest for gaming" obviously my goal if fastest FPS in BF2 and those type of games since I am 1920x1200 native res.

I do know that X2 is the chip of "tomorrow's apps" if it were a few months I could see but will gaming really take to the dual core X2 fast enough to worry about? I upgrade almost yearly if not a couple months before hand so what do you all think?

Even when the gaming apps come out for dual core will the increase really blow away the FX-55/57 at 2.8/3ghz? Also how overclockable is the X2 processors namely the 4600+ or 4800+?

Thanks and sorry it is a bit off topic hope that is ok it goes with my new decisions for the rig and Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB testing..

Just 2.0 ghz got fast enough to put a BFG 7800 GTX to its limits though especially next gen card which I will probably just upgrade to 8800 or whatever the next gen video is when it comes out in 6 month to 1 year

for me, fun = challenge.. if it's easy, it's boring, thus no fun

Yes but investing a bundle of $$$ into something then finding out it doesn't perform like you had at least hoped at the minimum = big let down at least for me anyway since I use my PC more than any other item I own

Thats why its important to do your homework b4 making purchases. I know that the X2 doesn't OC like a single core and my expectations are realistic (in an optimistic way ! lol) The same can be said for 2x1gig of memory, I'd be happy with 2-3-2-6 @ 210mhz or 3-3-3-8 @ 270mhz.

I agree 100%, I try to read all articles and reviews I can get my hands on. Currently I'm at 2-2-2-5 PAT enabled @ 210 FSB and 220 FSB was OK too, need to get my DFI NF4 Ultra-D and new CPU before we find out just how good these Ballistix 2GB really are. Next dilemma besides CPU is GPU which I had preordered the Dell BFG 7800 GTX deal but estimated ship date is 7/26 with no guarantees it was only $507 including tax.

Now I found that XFX has a 490/1300 overclocked card and the BFG is 460/1300, 2 yr warranty on the XFX I think is plenty how many people keep a graphics card over 2 yrs now? I sell mine every year before the huge depreciation sets in and it becomes worthless.

I guess I'm learning toward the FX-55 San Diego I want pure hardcore FPS and deliver the max CPU power to the video as possible.

Cool stuff ozzi, be sure to send me CPU-Z verified and super-pi 32m once you've reached your max.

I can't wait to get my 2x1GB so that I can actually contribute to my own db.

grr.. it bothers me that i'm memtest stable, but not sPI.. otherwise i'd have a nice 264mhz shot for you at 3-4-3

    any suggestions?

More voltage? Loosen alpha timings? Increase drive strength?

i bet its a tref setting so i would play with that. but the instability wont show in memtest only in windows so it takes forever to test it but its worth it as i got my gskill tccd to its max this way testing every damn tref setting. sometimes you will find like 5 or 6 settings that work pretty well but only 1 or 2 is truly stable in prime and such. also check that your cpu isnt maxed out or it may be the problem i would drop the multi for testing.

So is this the stick that you ordered from the Egg:
    Ballistix 1GB

The part numbers seem to match the Tracer part numbers from the Crucial site but they don't mention the modules being 'Tracer' in the description...

    Thanks!

nope, my ram can take a lot of voltage.. it seems that 3.0v is the sweet spot in memtest, but i'm trying sPI at 3.1v

that said, i have tried lower voltage.. 2.7v is unstable in windows.. 2.8v is good except in sPI and prime95 blend, 2.9v is a bit better.. so yeah
