I had bad sound in BF2 as well. I unistalled that stupid soundmax app and just let windows handle it.

But either way you need to tell it to use 2 speaker stereo and not 4/5/6/7 chan. That fixed vf2 sound for me

I feel like one of those people that you see pressing the elevator button even though it has been pressed! My psu button needs to be in the front. Forget the reset button & just do the coldboot. Honestly if these things had genders (!)and I feel perfectly fine thinking that being Female ~ FU$US. fussy asus

Another thing does anyone connect extra fans to the chassis and if so do you bother to use that program $a$us or if you know one please tell! I would think the fussy board would be "happy" with extra cooling but I feel leary of it since the guide says don't install the one that came with the mb etc. Honestly I just need a step pedal for these fans full throttle please!!!!...so tired of the flippin powering down of the fans when I want to oc why would I care about NOISE vs. performance? HMM SYSTEM STABILITY OR A QUIET LIBRARY PC that can't do .. ok done venting sorry.

I installed my Audigy 2 Platinum...Surround sound in gaming 5.1 or more is SWEET! Wondering how it will melt the power down of the mb though HAH. Just installing a few fans = reboots.

find yourself a fan controller and power that off the psu.
you can either buy a digital fan controller with 4 fan settings with card reader and the other unessesary gadgets or a manual unit.
if you can help it dont power fans off the motherboard .
if the fan go's south so will the motherboards performance.
I have seen fans take out motherboards but thats rare.

regarding the PCIE 1x problem:
for every reboot and BIOS change it goes to 1x, but if i shut it down and turn off the PSU. Wait for 5 seconds turn on everything, and it goes 16x.
Works every single time........ go figure...

BIOS 711. Haven't tried 8xx 9xx yet.

This has also worked with me 100% of the time. I've found that i never get the issue at stable clocks either.


For the record, ive got a x1900xt. And this has happened on quite a few nvidia cards.

I would just like to say....That I have an X800xt and an X1900XTX and have not ever had a 1x issue with any of the bios' ive tried....Currently I'm on 0903 with no problems at all....

Also I had 2 P5B's die on me both with different problems and now I'm on the third board...with no problems...
It seems to me that ASUS is THE PROBLEM....or at least thier fabs....
But for me it was a matter of returning the boards to the store I bought them at for Brand new replacements rather than going through ASUS' rediculous RMA process to get refurbished boards that probably have the same issue that the last board died from...

One more thing....
For those with this 1x problem....Try settinf your PEG LINK mode to Normal or Fast and see what happens..

well yesterday i was sure my p5b deluxe was dead. No matter what i tried it wouldnt boot untill i tried with one stick of ram in the last slot and boom it booted up instantly as nothing happend so i thought it had reset or something and ofcourse i put the ram back in and no boot no matter what i did one stick in slot 4 was the only way so tried this for a few hours and then put the other stick in slot 3 and it works but cant get dual channel to run on this board = (

Also first when it wouldnt boot i got bios beepcode saying memory parity error , no problem now thouhg.

Man c2d asus boards are really crappy , my third one and they have all been real bad feels like an unstable asrock board but not as easy to set up !

overclocks ok thouhg running 3.8ish ram att 850 4 3 4 8 but i really would lika to run another divider on mem but it fails prime in 2 sek no mather what i set in bios.

Beware of 0903 BIOS guys.

I had nothing but trouble with that bios. It seems to me that the boot-block in that bios is messed up. It doesnt recover from bad OCs at all. And after that you would need to use AFUDOS to fully go back to a older bios. Sad

I have recently changed my system to the specs listed below in my signature, however before I had the P5B mobo, I had an ABIT AW9D-MAX LGA775 which I sent back and had replaced with the Asus P5B as I thought the following issue was a mobo problem, turns out I was wrong, as both boards are giving the same problem, this is a bit confusing so please bere with me.

Firstly, I am Overclocking the CPU, the max I can get out of this CPU is listed below no matter how many volts I put thought it and so far is 15hrs prime stable, however the memory is at 900mhz @ 2.2v which I am more than happy with and is over 3000% memtest pro stable, so ok I got a bad stepping CPU but its quick enough for what I use it for.

The problem is if I restart the computer from within windows it restarts fine, If I shut down the computer from within Windows then switch back on later it reatrts fine, BUT...... If I shut down windows then either remove the power cable from the PSU or turn off the PSU when I come to turn it back on I get a message stating "overclocking Failed" Hit F1 for defaults or Del to enter the bios, I can hit Del to enter the bios and all my settings are still their, I can then immediatly save and exit and it posts/boots fine ??????? "confused yet cos I am"

Dont forget everything is stable and this only happens on cold boots, it is almost as if the crash free bios 3 is inisiating itself, also dont forget this same problem has, and is happening on 2 completely different boards, the Abit and the Asus, same components just different mobos, Crucial wont RMA the mem cos its passing memtest even at DDR900 without errors, the boards have been tested by the company I purchased them from with no probs, the only thing left is the CPU and I really cant see that being the problem.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated cos its doing my knutt.

Download the latest from ASUS website. Install it BUT you will I am very sure feel slow down during boot time and perhaps during Windows too. Install it as you will see Unknown Device (which is a bother). Install it, reboot, then go to Device Manager and under SCSI and RAID controllers see for Jmicron. Rite click it and click Update driver. Select No, not at this time and click Next then select Install from specific location and click next, then select Don’t search. I’ll choose the driver to install (from a list). You will see two options there, “JMicron JMB36x Controller” and “Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller”. Select the later one, “Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller”, click next and allow the Computer to do the rest. There is no need to reboot after this change, though do reboot to see that the boot problem is gone. If you want to use the RAID capabilities then there is enough offered by the Intel chip, use that instead of this. I would have disabled this in BIOS but I can’t do that as using two IDE/PATA optical drives.

Enter your bios and under Advanced/Chipset/Southbridge Chipset Config, set it to you lowest setting, X2/X1 Mode (Compatible) "I think, or something like that", someone did mention to try this quite a few pages back but im not sure how many people saw it, its the only way I have managed to get the Primary GFX slot to run x16 mode all the time wether im cold or warm booting, it works everytime.

If your running dual GFX then sorry but your second card is going to suffer, so sell both and just buy 1 better one

By the way I have tried this way with the following bioses and it worked for them all: 0711, 0804, & beta 0903.
CPU VCore: 1.450v / Mem: 2.15v / FSB Termination: 1.400v / NB VCore: 1.65v / SB VCore: 1.60v / ICH: 1.057v

For the 101st time, its a COMBINATION of settings.

I can get it to go away on some setting if I up the VCore ~.0375V higher then I know it needs to be stable.

You seem to be running an E6600 @ 3.2 with 1.450V.... Thats about .1V too high for my E600 to be stable a that speed. I am not surprised you are not having an issue with that much VCore, if I set mine that high I wouldn't have an issue either.

I did this yesterday and went to bed early, woke up today and during that time my P5B had apparently its 2nd ever BSOD. Restarted from a complete cold-boot and windows would consistently blue screen after cycling the loading meter a couple of times. Tried a messing around with a few bios settings (jmicron ide-->ahci then vice versa) just to make sure it wasn't being a flaky piece of garbage like my previous A7N8X, the most random motherboard ever.

Booted into safe mode and rolled back to the latest jmicron beta drivers and it boots fine. Just sayin.

i use my current 6600 at 1.43v and 3.2ghz and i have the problem, i also ran the same chip at 1.58v and 1.6v at 3.5 and the 1x problem is there, i also had another chip that i used at 3.4ghz and 1.45v and i had the 1x issue
