(also telling them you have a following of people that like to take your advice from forums) once you have that person's name, make sure when you get there, you'll be able to meet them face to face. make your drive and tell them you'll only use up 5 mins of their time and have them escort you to the components "cage" from there, its a brothel line! hand pick your beauty.

i know all this because i used to work at 4 different fry's stores along the west coast. it'll be even better if you can get ahold of the customer service supervisor.

i hope you get the right processor. ive been told that the same batch i have, 3001a187 are some of the better ones found so far. but dont take my word for it. i have only used/seen my own i7 930.

good luck and let us know!
Well, I will call them later today and do what you said. If that works i will drive down there!

Ok, Just came back from Fry's. They only have one batch number at my fry's in sacramento and the one is Roseville has the same batch also. The batch number is #3952a521, anyone have one of these?

I read a review by clunk comparing the 920 and 930 where apparently the 920 D0 still overclocks better with lower vcore. If that's the case then 930 would not be a better choice for now?

    not forgetting lower VTT
Think in fairness the new 920 looks like shaping up into an exceptional chip.

That's not bad but I'd rather like to know how easy it is to get this running 4.2 - 4.4Ghz stable for 24/7 usage

If you know what you are doing and get a decent chip, almost effortless.

Well, I bought my I7 930 and I have it prime 24h stable at 4.4 ghz! Abit high on the voltage 1.425v, but stil lowering it until i get the lowest stable voltage, but this is way better than my old CO 920 that couldn't do more than 3.8ghz.....

That's not bad but 1.425V for 4.4Ghz is pretty high and those 920 D0 would easily do better. I guess I'll just stick with mine now, no point getting the 930's since they aren't that good in overclocking as yet.

Havne't had time to tweak the voltage and lower it, i just started there....This is a huge step from my CO 920 that needed 1.5v to do 4.0ghz!

    According to this threat
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=239175

only 12 people on this site have achieved 4.5 with less than 1.40v. I'm sure that 12 chips account for about 1% of the I7 920's out there.

and according to this other thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ha#post3808586
only 2 with less than 1.4

My point is that 4.4ghz and above is not EASILY achieved with lower volts.

Yes, I'd like to see some stats as well. I'm going to Microcenter to pick one of these up and would like to know.

That makes sense but do we have statistics of i7 930 to compare and conclude that 930's can do better? If not then that's my point, the 920 D0 is still a better choice for now Unless you're saying there are 12 people hitting 4.4Ghz with lower vCore as well.

man it's no use to argue over the old legend, the 920 D0 is true a good one but not all get the lucky 777 from intel corp. and also if not wrong this old legend already prepare his "COFFIN", so let's welcome the new one.
also i think it would be wise to spend the money over $20 or $30 to have the added multi coz who might know it would also have the Xtra Ghz

w8 w8 w8 and w8.. if you still suggest to buy a 920 over a 930 then how can the statistics of 930 can ever be build.
if it's only 2 or 3 owner how can we make a stat.

Going to check if microcenter has any 3001A187. They're $229 right now

    EDIT:

    All they had was 3001A124

It's close but I took a pass. Anyone have experience with that particular batch?
