After the pencil mod, CPU-Z will not show a voltage higher than 1.213V. Very strange. I know of no other program that would read the voltage properly. The Asus probe always read at 1.49 or 1.5V and doesnt seem to ever change. The problem is, it should read 1.10volts because I'm managing my clock speeds with CrystalCPUID which sets my chip to run at 6x400@1.10volts at minimal loads, 8x400@1.30volts at medium loads, and 9x400@1.50 at heavy loads. CPU-Z will detect the 1.10 volts but fail to show anything above 1.213v.

Edit: Oh btw, I like this motherboard much more than the Gigabyte DS3 rev 3.3! I bought the DS3 around 3 months ago and it died on me so I replaced it with the ASUS. The DS3 gave me tons of headaches and was plagued with blackscreen issues when overclocking that required manually flashing the bios. I hope the Asus P5K won't give me those. As of now, every single benchmark I've done in Everest Ultimate Edition at 9x400mhz shows that the ASUS P5K is faster than the Gigabyte DS3 :-)

And does anybody know how I can see the north bridge temperature on this board?
Your chip has a vid of 1.325v. When you exceed that by about 0.12v or so, cpuz will show a static reading of 1.213v to mean that it's running on high vid (1.325). Since you're manipulating vcore, it's setting it independent of vid.

I'm not sure how the p5k works, but on my p5b vanilla, when you alter vcore / overclock, vid gets ignored if I recall correctly. Trust asusprobe / speedfan to deliver vcore readings.

i'm pretty much sure that im getting this board for my new single stage unit... so i can really start to torture my 6600. really don't fell comfortable using my evga mobo for experimenting with ss since i'm new with em

Max vcore is 1.7 which will net you about 1.67 give or take...this was not enough on my P5K Deluxe with Jinu SS and X6800 at 4.50ghz Perty sure there's more left in this cpu Haven't had a chance to try this chip on my Evga...

a fellow Finn SF3D used to have a chip with same stepping as mine does. he was able to get at least 4.5ghz out from it with an SS or dry ice can't remember witch it was.
anyways i'm sure im going to brake me ocing records wide open. have to do those ram voltage mods to it too so i can burn my ram

I just placed a little fan over the northbridge heatsink. Previously, at 9x400 at 1.50volts, it would crash in less than an hour under Orthos. With the fan, it ran for over 8 hours until I stopped it. The NB on this sucker runs boiling hot without a fan.

One strange thing I noticed with this motherboard which never happened to the Gigabyte DS3 and the ECS PT890T-A I used with the same E6600. When running Orthos, the network connects stop responding. Even if I close Orthos, the network connection will not work no matter what I do. I have to reset the computer for it to work again.

So are you saying that since Asus Probe and Everest reads 1.50 volts, that means the CrystalCPUID is not actually setting the v-core? Eventhough that CPU-Z detects a voltage drop

Asus claims that the P5K uses the p35 manufactured on the 65nm process. However, weren't all the first batches manufactured under the 90nm process?

OK, I couldn't resist. P5K ordered. My DS3 has been "interesting" for the last 10 months but it's time for something better.

My friend just bought this and his system overclocks like mad.

But should i get a ASUS P5B Deluxe or this?

The P5B Deluxe is ~$10 cheaper for a brand new one for me.
Or $20 cheaper for a used P5B DLX.
    My Rig:
    Intel E6300 @ 3.35ghz w/ 1.375v
    ASUS P5B Deluxe WIFI-AP
    Tuniq Tower 120 @ 30% for silence
    nVidia Vanilla 8800GT 512 @ 806/1907/1030 (Haven't hit a wall or experienced a single artifact yet, running at 1.1v.)
^WTF?! Too bad i have no money for watercooling or i'd push this to the max to see what i can reach. Currently using AC S1 hsf, idle: 34C, load; 48C>.<^

    Corsair 2GB PC6400 RAM (Cas 5) @946mhz!
    Sunbeam Transformer Case
    3x 300gb SATA HDD
2x Pioneer DVR-111D (For burning Xbox 360 backups.)

Why go backward? Asus seems to have a done a very good job with this chipset. Notice most posts are regarding overclocking, not "why doesn't this work?" and "why does it do that?". A quick pencil mod and away ya go with this puppy...no drama

    OK, up and running...

What program does everyone use to properly monitor CPU voltages? CPU-Z just shows crazy low voltages and OCCT doesn't seem to show anything, but it seems like that's just because you need to link it to something else or whatnot.

Oh well, off to do pencil mod.

I use Everest Ultimate...no Asus software installed...just drivers. What bios reports for voltage and what you see in Everest is pretty close (good enough for reference).

Ah, I'm too cheap to pay =p

Anyways, turns out I had voltage on auto before and this motherboard decided to use really low volts on my e4300.

    Just did Vdroop mod...good stuff!
It was dropping even in the bios monitoring page before but now 1.4 in bios is 1.392 and stable under load =) I suspect Asus kept it droopy on purpose just to sell more deluxes or something, lol.
Currently at 3Ghz btw on the stock cooler...let's see what we can do =) My chip seems to have an FSB wall somewhere under 400 though.

You mean like the P5B? If so, then no...This board doesn't do anything "weird"...very solid. Running dual boot Vista 32 and Win2K just fine...

This P5K Vanilla is f'ing wonderful. My DS3 wouldn't POST with my E6600 at 400x9 or 450x8. Not even 3.4 was stable. Now with my P5K, I'm at 450x8 3.6 GHz and happily folding away. This thing is a beast and I can't wait try it with a Q6600.

Possible to flash it with p5k-e or p5k-deluxe bios which has the 1T command rate... or the mobo need some controller to support this functions...

I would not risk it. There are some subtle differences between bios and you will most likely end up dead in the water...wait for an official 1T bios (that is if they decide to do it). Not worth worrying about really as the difference between higher, looser 2T and somewhat tighter 1T on the Deluxe is minimal...
