As i've read some pages ago, someone was building up some theory that those small letters and the bottom of the cpu, "N" or "T" could have something to do with this...

And if im not in mistake this is the case also. I've had a N chip and now i have a T chip and their voltage/mhz relation is completely different.
What did your N chip do in comparison to your T chip? My 3800 has just arrived and its marked N on the corner.

Not looking great at the moment Not sure whats holding me back but core0 fails very quickly again like my 4400+ does. This DC stuff has me stumped

unless you're under extreme cooling, it doesn't matter...

Maybe aria didn't update their system when the new stock came in, but isn't that a Manchester core?!!?!

I just CTRL+F'd my way through 15+ pages of this thread and really didn't find out much about that stepping. There was a small amount of info, but it wasn't very positive.

Can anyone vouch for their similar chip performing decently?

Sure its an ADA3800AA5BX (will double check when back from work. Think it might be heat related so gonna chuck my dual core opty hsf w/ silverstone FN82 back on instead of arctic freezer 64 pro.

Think this cos whipped panel off and running no case side and rather than fail in a few minutes its failing after like an hour with two instances running (of P95 not orthos as that crashes straight away)

Well mines not clocking very well at all so think gonna switch back to 4400+ @ 2.6GHz cos of the extra cache (this 3800+ seems to run hotter!) Not sure if its my board or CPU giving in.

Well currently doing 2.7GHz 1.5v but core0 gives up way before core1. Core temps under load is about 55-57c.

Think gonna sell the 3800 and grab a OEM 3800 from scan for under £100.

Well thats really kinda hot, do you have adequate cooling?
No point getting another CPU if it's also gonna be 55+ degrees at load - get the temp down and that clock would most likely be stable.

Arctic cooling freezer 64 pro with AS5. Strange thing is is that the 4400+ I was running at 1.57v seemed cooler running than this 3800. It's actually an E4 revision as well not an E6

y got one of this, still testing, but i reached 2800 1.42v, not 100% stable but i think with 1.475 will be stable at 2800mhz.

Just a note of interest, I got my x2 3800 to 2840 from 2800 by changing the MAL/RP from 8/6 to 9/6.5 respectively. Thats as high as she goes tho, as Core 1 peters out at 2850. Not bad for a $150.00 chip tho

I've just built a new budget rig with an X2 3800 in it.

    LDBHE 0601TPEW stepping. So far I'm Orthos stable at 260 * 10, 1.35Vcore on an Asrock 939Dual-VSTA.

I am however a bit worried about temps. Speedfan has Temp1 at 37C, Temp2 at 62C, Temp3 at 60C and Core at 60C. These are whilst running Orthos by the way. It's also substantially higher than the hardware monitor in the BIOS shows. What gives? I'm using a Thermalright SLK948U with um... a big fan that I can't remember what it is. I haven't put on fresh Arctic Silver since I reseated the heatsink though, so that probably accounts for a degree or two.

I do think my biggest enemy here is heat. At 1.4Vcore, I couldn't last in Orthos for more than a few minutes at 263 HTT. 14 minutes the first time; when it failed I just started it again and it failed quicker. Just supposition though. I might do the Vcore mod and see where that gets me. If that doesn't help then I might try taking off the IHS.

It was your results that encouraged me to go for that stepping.

What sort of cooling did you use?

I'm hitting 56C load at everything stock setting with my BH-E4 chip on a Zalman CNPS7700, should I be as confused as I am?

    What motherboard?

    What are ambient temperatures like?

    What about case temperatures?

Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe (Which I'm gradually learning through experience is a crap board.)

As far as judging temps, I'm kind of ill-equipped in a dorm to get much in terms of accurate readings. Speedfan has kind of been my sole resource for temperatures recently.

As far as that goes currently, if it helps at all:

    Temp1: 38C
    Temp2: 37C
    HD0: 39C
    HD1: 36C
    Core: 40C

I'm literally dumb as to temperature sensors for this board so far, so I'm not entirely sure which parts the first two indicate.

I'm not sure, you'll need to do a bit more research on it. But I imagine one of them is the chipset.

At stock settings that does seem a bit high given the heatsink you have, but I'm no expert. Could just be high ambient temps and not brilliant contact with the IHS.

@Supertim0r: did you ever remove the IHS? What has been your final results and temperatures?
