I've tried F6 and F6x, not different on the Uncore, it is still stuck at x20. It seams to be a BIOS-bug for Xeon DP, but I don't know where it comes from, yet.
I can set the Uncore to 12x, x16, x18 etc... in BIOS, but it ends up as x20 in Windows all the time.
The high Uncore requires too much VVT >1.4v for high BCLK >200 which I'm not willing to use until I know more about this CPU and what it can handle for 24/7.

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

The same on Vista, still stuck on x20.
These sticks have been stable up to ~@1770Mhz 7-8-7-20 1.66v(BIOS set), all other submitting on auto/default on w3520. I haven't tested the MEM-stability on this setup yet, but still no special tweaking , actually.
MEM-tweaking is not my thing, but I have been getting almost the same read/write and bandwidth no matter what timing I have used with x8 RAM on this MB.
EDIT:
Good to hear it, I'm wondering if it got something to do with the DP-stuff.
Please let me know if the new BIOS (or other tweaks) fix it.
What kind of VVT do you have to use with x20 Uncore to stabilize it at high BCLK>200?

Many thanx. I'm certainly no ram expert myself and basically set what "cpu tweaker" shows, but still failed to go below 88824CR2
Off to squeeze a few more GHz out of my 950.
PS
I seem to require more Vcore for F6 bios compared to F3h to maintain my 4.6GHz level( F3h got me into the 4.5 Linx stable thread).

I was hoping it was a BIOS-bug, but I fear you are right. I've seen a EVGA SR-2 that is locked on x20 Uncore too. It seams to be a CPU-feature for these Xeon DP, as i feared before.
The MEM is not totally locked, I can use the most actual x8 and x10 without any problem. But I'm keeping the VVT under Intel's recommendations (max VVT=1.4v) for now.
VVT=1.38v is working fine for 4Ghz (182x22), but the x20 Uncore requires too much VVT at high BCLK>200 to run stable, unless I find a way around it.

Thanks. I read the article. Do you think that maybe your clocks were limited by OCP like Charles experienced? (crash on heavy load, then fast C1 cycle at post)
I did the "high clock" mod that hicookie posted on my board and tried a X5667 (32nm quad) but ran into a hard bclock wall at 227MHz(PCIe @ 106MHz, VTT @ 1.45-1.55V)...not sure what's holding it back.
![]()
I did not experience any OCP issues, but with a quad I wasn't expecting to. I was planning to pick up a 980X this weekend in Tokyo, but shippments for the Japanese market have been delayed. We're not sure when they'll ba available yet, maybe not until April
(let's move this discussion to fugger's thread in extreme reviews)

Man, I want that 980X badly. Considering picking up one of these babies soon, though that $1000 price tag is scary but it better be worth it. Damn it Intel, why do you have to overprice your products so high?

Hey folks, building a new system around an i7 980X that hopefully is on its way today. . .
I was looking at the Giga-Byte X58A-UD7 QV List for memory and i am wondering if the sheet (here) means 6gb is the practical maximum memory i can use -- it says 1 dimm per channel--so does that mean unless i can find 3x 4gb dimms i am stuck with 6gb? is there any reason to get more than 6gb on win7 x64? (for mostly gaming)
does anyone run more than 6gb on any x58 boards?
thanks in advance

Nice chip Sam... X5650, that's exactly what I want for the SR-2
I may have missed this but how much did that cost you?
Also, any special reason for running 22x multiplier? Looking on wiki it looks like the X5650 can do 23x... odd > even, or so I've heard...

SR-2 was the plan, but it is not out yet.
Yeah, according to Intel this has a "Max Turbo Frequency"=3.06 GHz and this means 133x23 Multi, but my BIOS says max x22. So either the retail CPU has changed, or it is a BIOS-issue. I would really like to try x23, but can't select it for some reason.
Cores seams to be easy to control and stabilize with low-volts, but the challenge is to stabilizing the Uncore for high BCLK>200 without too much VVT for 24/7 use. Because the Uncore is locked on x20 on this CPU (at least it seams so for now). So higher multi with x23 would be a great help for getting these chips in high frequency, actually.
